After the OTAs focused on improving the team's weaknesses, quarterback Dak Prescott made an encouraging comment on the Cowboys' defense.
Prescott shared his perspective on what he has noticed during his offseason practices. His comments provide insights into how the team has opportunities heading into the 2026 season under the new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker.
"A lot. Starting with just their DC Christian Parker, obviously, excited about when we got him, but now having spent time with him, having to compete against him," said Prescott, per Landon Holifield. "Just his leadership for one, you can feel it amongst each and every one of the position groups on defense, you can feel their intensity."
Speaking about the defense, Prescott appreciated the energy and talent he witnessed, stating that the defense is faster, more aggressive, and capable of making game-changing plays.
Christian Parker installed a multiple 3-4 defense that highlights gap-and-half techniques and better gap control to stop the run.
Dallas added impactful players while also investing in young defensive talent through the draft.
One of the significant additions is safety Caleb Downs; his arrival has created excitement around the franchise. Dallas also added Quinnen Williams via trade alongside dominant linemen like Kenny Clark and edge rusher Rashan Gary.
A stronger defense means more possessions, better field position, and less pressure on the offense to win every week. If the new defense manages to perform as expected, Dallas could turn out to be one of the NFC's dangerous teams.
However, being a QB, Prescott mentioned how the defense is not exactly the only unit that defines their success.
Dak Prescott Admits About How NFL Quarterbacks Are Truly Measured
Dak Prescott gave an honest assessment of how QBs are evaluated. He acknowledged that personally, numbers matter, but championships are the main benchmark.
"If you play this position — I've said it before — how you're judged is winning that last game," Prescott said this week, via Todd Archer of ESPN. "Anything other than that, you're warranted to get [the criticism] because you've not won that game. If you're not wired that way and if it's not what pushes you, you should probably find a different job and a different position."
The veteran QB's comments highlight the pressure that comes with leading one of the league's most scrutinised franchises. Despite multiple Pro Bowl appearances and years of regular-season success, Prescott understands that postseason success defines a QB's legacy.
As Dallas enters next season under HC Brian Schottenheimer, expectations remain high for Prescott to lead the Cowboys on a playoff run.
