Dak Prescott Makes Bold Playoff Vow To Quinnen Williams

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott recently shared a playoff vow and motivational exchange he had with defensive tackle Quinnen Williams as the Cowboys wrapped up their mandatory minicamp on June 18.

According to Prescott, Williams reminded the team that he has spent seven NFL seasons without making the playoffs. The Cowboys QB responded, telling Williams that he would help get him to the postseason, but the DT would need to help the team take the next step and win the Super Bowl.

“I told him I’ll get you to the playoffs, but I need you to go help us win it,” per X post of Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News.

The Cowboys acquired Williams in a blockbuster deal from the New York Jets in November 2025. The team sent DT Mazi Smith, a 2026 second-round pick, and a conditional 2027 first-round pick (acquired from the Micah Parsons trade) in exchange for Williams.

He has recorded a total of 343 tackles (208 solo), 110 QB hits, 15 passes defended, and 41.5 sacks for 105 games played across seven seasons in the league.

Prescott put the spotlight on Williams and the defense unit, as the Cowboys ranked last in both passing defense (251.5) and points allowed (30.1 per game), the worst in franchise history.

While the Cowboys seek improvement on the defense, Prescott believes that players like Williams can be a key part of the team's success.

Williams said he is determined to improve as a pass rusher in 2026 after falling short of his own expectations last season.

"[I want to] continue to learn and grow every single year," Williams said, per Patrick Walker of the Dallas Cowboys.com. "I didn't have my best year when it came down to it, statistically, as a pass rusher last year. I wanna be better. I wanna do better, and not for myself, but for this team."

As Williams focuses on elevating his game in 2026, he believes the guidance of new defensive coordinator Christian Parker could play a major role in helping both him and the defense take the next step.

Prescott's message reflected the expectations Dallas has for Williams after acquiring him from the Jets. If the Cowboys are going to return to the playoffs, the DT is expected to play a major role in improving a defense that struggled last season.

Parker's Scheme Unlocks Quinnen Williams' Potential

Williams revealed that he learnt a lot about Parker's mindset and about his own playstyle in his full offseason with the Cowboys under the new DC Christian Parker.

"It [defensive scheme] opened my eyes on when I could take my shots, when I can do certain things, and constructive criticism from what he sees, and what I need to work on from his point of view," Williams said, per Patrick Walker of the DallasCowboys.com.

He expressed his excitement about the new defensive scheme of the Cowboys, which is the same scheme run by the majority of the teams in the league, leading them to success.

As Williams works through his first full offseason in Dallas, the Cowboys hope the defensive tackle can help deliver on the challenge Prescott laid out during minicamp: returning to the playoffs and competing for a Super Bowl.
