The Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott, wore a vintage Cowboys shirt that read “CHAMPIONS” above the team’s logo as he arrived at the Cowboys training camp in Oxnard on July 28. Though his choice of clothing has generated a lot of discussion, Prescott said that the decision to wear the vintage shirt wasn’t intentional.

Prescott said the vintage T-shirt commemorating the Cowboys' 1995 Super Bowl win over the Pittsburgh Steelers had been in his closet for years.

"I looked at it and said, ‘Why in the h*** haven’t I worn this?’" Prescott said during the presser at Cowboys Training Camp in Oxnard as posted by the Cowboys YouTube channel on July 31.

Although he considered wearing it last season, he felt it wasn’t appropriate to wear during the regular season and chose to wear it for the 2026 training camp.

“Set the tone, I think the tone’s been set,” Prescott said in the same presser. “To say a T-shirt is going to do it, it would be, I knew you guys would like it.”

The Cowboys haven't reached the NFC Championship Game or the Super Bowl since the 1995 season, entering 2026 amid a 30-year championship drought.

The team last appeared in the playoffs during the NFC Wild Card Round in 2023, where they lost to the Green Bay Packers with a 48-32 record.

"Didn’t know how many of the teammates would see it," Prescott said. "It’s just the manifesting thing. When we want stuff in life, a lot of times, but then you know when people start talking about it, you kinda hesitate. 'Should I say that? They’re going to hold me to it.”

As Prescott enters his 11th season with the Cowboys, carrying a 2-5 playoff record, he believes that speaking about his Super Bowl aspirations into existence will eventually make it happen, as he reflected on his journey to the league.

Dak Prescott wants Cowboys held to Super Bowl standard

Prescott believes the Cowboys can only control how they capitalize on the opportunities in front of them to pursue a Super Bowl, rather than focusing on external expectations or conversations.

"We control our chances, we control our opportunities with a little bit of luck of staying healthy,” Prescott said during the same presser. "I guess you can say, because we know that it’s a 1% better each and every day. You’ve got to handle your business. And if you’re not competing today and iron sharpens iron, you’re not going to have that opportunity or even chance.”

He said that "there's nothing worse than" missing the playoffs for two consecutive seasons, as he expressed frustration in not meeting the standards he set for himself.

Prescott is not shying away from being vocal about his Super Bowl aspirations and from the expectations that come with being a Cowboys player.
