While Dak Prescott did not mention Jerry Jones by name, his latest comments shine a spotlight on the pressure facing the Dallas Cowboys owner.
Prescott has produced at a high level since being drafted in the 4th round in 2016, but team success has been elusive. This has put increasing scrutiny on the owner, Jerry Jones. Speaking to Todd Archer of ESPN, Prescott talked about how, due to the position he plays, the blame usually falls on him.
“If you play this position, I’ve said it before, how you’re judged is winning that last game,” said Prescott. “Anything other than that, you’re warranted to get (the criticism) because you’ve not won that game.”
With Prescott, the Cowboys have held the best record in their conference just once - his rookie year in 2016. He has also only made the playoff 5 times in his career. Unfortunately for him, he has a record of 2-5 in the playoffs.

However, he cannot be the only one at fault. The Cowboys have not played in the NFC Championship since 1995, the longest drought in the conference. They have missed the playoffs two years straight.
As per Wynston Wilcox from FanSided, owner Jerry Jones is running out of time to build a Super Bowl-winning team.
“The clock truly is ticking for Jones to figure out how to build a championship roster in Dallas. This isn’t a quarterback problem. The one thing Prescott probably deserves that he hasn’t gotten yet is league MVP, but you have to be on a winning team to get it.”
Wilcox also talked about this season’s roster and how it is a make-or-break for Jones.
“Jones has turned to the NFL Draft for the cheapest approach to building the roster. It’s worked the last couple of years...This (season) feels like one of the better Cowboys rosters in recent years. If it doesn’t work out this year, will it ever?
The pressure is on Jones now. And despite all this, Prescott expressed how he is excited for the upcoming season.
Prescott Excited For Upcoming Season After OTAs
Prescott, who had surgery for a hamstring injury mid-last season, is now entering his 11th season and was an active participant during the OTAs. He expressed how the OTAs have shown him a lot of things that have made him excited for the season to start.
“These OTAs, the way that I’ve been seeing minicamp, the communication with (head coach Brian Schottenheimer), with the quarterbacks or the quarterback room, just a lot of good things,” said Prescott. “I’m healthy. Excited as hell.”
The last time that Prescott was healthy throughout the season, he had finished as the runner-up in MVP voting, while Dallas finished with the same record of 12-5 for the third straight season.
