Dallas's offense was not the problem last campaign, and that may just be why the franchise has lost another piece. Dak Prescott’s offense now takes a hit with an exit that came after the guard spent his whole NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys.
As reported by Pittsburgh Steelers insider Mark Kaboly, offensive lineman Brock Hoffman has landed a one-year deal with the Steelers after a week of speculation.
Brock Hoffman first joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2022 after he went undrafted that year, joining from Virginia Tech. During his career, he appeared in 54 games over four seasons, playing at center or guard, but only started in about 16.
By March 10, 2026, rumors of a done deal were picking up pace, with multiple outlets linking him to a move. But Hoffman was not having any of it. True to his position, the guard pushed back while speaking to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
"Just talked to Cowboys free agent OL Brock Hoffman who said he has NOT agreed to any deal with Pittsburgh or anywhere else," wrote the Cowboys reporter on X. "He is still a free agent."
On paper, Hoffman’s numbers tell a story that is steady, but far from convincing. Across nearly 500 snaps last year, he allowed just one sack and picked up two penalties.
His PFF grade dipped to 56 this season, a noticeable fall from last year’s 66.3. This explains why his campaign did enough to hold the line, but not perhaps enough to merit a new contract.
Losing that kind of communication and stability in the middle disrupts timing, though he wasn't a starter, the centre certainly helped out consistently. Now, without him, Dallas's options are limited.
What Are Dak Prescott’s Options After Losing Brock Hoffman?
Though the Dallas Cowboys lost a 4-year player, team owner Jerry Jones seems to have been prepared. The franchise has already brought in Matt Hennessy, signed on March 12, 2026, as an immediate depth option at center.
A former third-round pick, 78th overall by the Atlanta Falcons. Hennessy has six years of experience in the NFL.
The 28-year-old's PFF grade (68.8)from just last season has been better than Brock Hoffman's best-ever grade. Hennessy is not a like-for-like replacement in terms of physical tone, but he gives Dak Prescott a center who didn't allow a single sack last season.
This now comes down to short-term vs long-term thinking. Hennessy and internal adjustments can stabilize things quickly, but only time will tell how long.
