Dallas Could Add Another Playmaker for Dak Prescott as George Pickens' Situation Looms

The Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones are looking at Ohio State’s Carnell Tate as another weapon for Dak Prescott to throw the football to.

NFL.com’s Chad Reuter has predicted that the Cowboys could draft the Ohio State Buckeye Carnell Tate, regardless of what happens with George Pickens.

“It’s unclear whether George Pickens will be traded or play in Dallas on the franchise tag,” Reuter wrote. “If Pickens stays, adding Tate on the outside and moving CeeDee Lamb into the slot would be a beautiful setup for quarterback Dak Prescott.”

The Illinois native has been in college for three years. Throughout his career, the wide receiver has had 151 receptions, 1,872 yards, and 14 touchdowns. In the 2025 season alone, Tate had 51 receptions for 875 yards, and 9 of those 14 touchdowns came in this season.

Experts like Chad Reuter project Carnell Tate as a top-15 pick in this year's NFL Draft. The talented wide receiver received a grade of 6.71 on his draft and combine profile, which translates to him being a year 1 starter.

As for the Dallas offense, it ranked 2nd out of 32, and the passing offense ranked 2nd as well in the 2025 season.

Dak Prescott had a brilliant season with 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns. Both wide receivers George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb eclipsed 1,000 yards.

Adding the likes of Carnell Tate will only make this defense scarier. The bigger question at hand is whether the Cowboys are strengthening the wrong end of their roster.

Shouldn’t Dallas Be Focusing on Defense at the NFL Draft?

Though Carnell Tate makes that offense better, there is no doubt. Any team facing Prescott, Lamb, Pickens, and Tate would be a nightmare to play against and a headache for the opposition's defensive coordinator.

However, despite a potent offense, the Cowboys lack serious defensive firepower. The team allowed 377 yards per game, ranking 30th (out of 32) in total yards allowed.

The Cowboys also allowed 511 points last season, which is the worst record of all teams in 2025.

The Cowboys hold two first-round picks, and they could get instant starters on the defensive end, which is the need of the hour.

The Cowboys have already brought in edge rusher Rashan Gary, cornerback Cobie Durant, safety Jalen Thompson, and defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia. It remains to be seen what other players they add to the defense.
