Dallas Cowboys Could Land $40M Free Agent From NFC Rival in Free Agency

The Dallas Cowboys may be preparing to make a bold move during free agency.

Reports suggest owner Jerry Jones could target a $40 million free agent from an NFC rival, a move that could immediately reshape Dallas’ roster.

According to the reports, Jerry Jones is looking for linebacker Bobby Okereke from the New York Giants. Bobby started his career with the Indianapolis Colts in 2019. He completed four seasons with them and later signed a deal with the New York Giants in 2022.

During his career, he played in 110 games and recorded 510 total tackles, while intercepting 7 passes and 11 forced fumbles.

Bobby signed a four-year rookie contract with the Indianapolis Colts for $3.6 million, in which $905.5K was his average salary and $883.1K was his signing bonus. Upon his joining the New York Giants, he signed for a four-year contract at $40 million with an average salary of $10 million and $12 million as a signing bonus.

Later, his contract with the Giants was terminated, and he was released as a UFA for 2027.

Okereke has developed into one of the more reliable three-down linebackers in the NFL. During his career, Okereke built a reputation for sideline-to-sideline range, strong run defense, and consistent tackling production.

His durability and leadership have made him a steady presence in the middle of the defense, helping stabilize linebacker units while handling a heavy snap count each season.

Why Bobby Okereke Could Be the Missing Piece in the Dallas Cowboys Defense

If Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys pursues Bobby Okereke, the move would likely target stability at linebacker.

The Dallas Cowboys have leaned heavily on Micah Parsons as their defensive centerpiece. But ever since his departure, the unit has lacked a consistent inside presence who can organize the defense.

Bobby Okereke’s experience calling defensive plays and handling a high snap of 1104 in 2025 could give the Cowboys a reliable anchor behind the defensive line.

Adding a veteran linebacker with coverage ability would also help Dallas counter modern NFC offenses that rely on tight ends and short passing attacks.
