Dak Prescott is one of the players the Dallas Cowboys would dare not move, at least with the current form he has. But they still have to make a very crucial decision about him.
The Cowboys are $30.17 million over the cap, which means they have some work to do to free up some space. Jerry Trotta of The Landry Hat believes the franchise nas not other option than to restructure Prescott’s contract.
"Dak Prescott sticks out like a neon sign in the dark in that regard...The Cowboys really have no choice but to restructure Prescott," he said in his report. So, what is Prescott's contract, and how much would the Cowboys save by restructuring it?

The 32-year-old signed a 4-year, $240 million contract with the Cowboys in 2024. The team can save $30.96 million by restructuring it. It wouldn't be new for the Dallas Cowboys since they did it before the 2025 season as well.
The Cowboys' QB had $89.89 million cap hit last year. The team converted half of his $45.75 million base salary into a signing bonus to create $36.6 million in cap room, reducing his cap hit to $53.29 million. The question is, will they do it again?
The Kansas City Chiefs did it with Patrick Mahomes, so you never know. He was originally set to count $78.2 million against the 2026 salary cap. But after the restructure, his cap hit drops to $34.65 million. Though in Cowboys, Prescott might not be the only one.
CeeDee Lamb and Tyler Smith Might Join Dak Prescott in Contract Restructuring
In his report, Jerry Trotta has also named CeeDee Lamb and Tyler Smith as no-brainers for the Cowboys, for them to free up cap space. Lamb signed a four-year, $136 million contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys in August 2024.
And Smith signed a four-year, $96 million contract extension with the Cowboys on September 13, 2025. That made him the highest-paid guard in NFL history. Trotta says that restructuring their contracts would free up $36.63 million in cap space.
So, in total, restructuring the contracts of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Tyler Smith will free up $67.59 in Cowboys' cap space.
