The Dallas Cowboys began their offseason with training camp, running from July 29 to August 18. While training at the River Ridge playing fields in Oxnard, the Cowboys have been plagued by certain injuries to their stars after the second padded practice.

The Cowboys had their second padded session on Tuesday, August 4, during which safety Alijah Clark sustained an ankle injury and had to be held out of the field. The Dallas Cowboys writer, Tommy Yarrish, also reported on tackle Tyler Guyton and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.

“Tackle Tyler Guyton missed some of the end of practice with a sore elbow,” Yarrish wrote. “Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was dealing with a sore leg and did not participate in team drills. Both Guyton’s and Overshown’s injuries do not appear to be of any concern.”

While the Dallas Cowboys writer provided an update on Overshown and Guyton’s injuries on August 4, Veteran defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard, who was with the rehab group, is also currently struggling with a hamstring issue. Still, the injury is not serious at the moment.

Furthermore, head coach Brian Schottenheimer said on August 4 that tight end Princeton Fant has suffered a torn ACL and a partial MCL tear. He will be out for the 2026 season.

This happened after he was injured in the first padded practice on Monday, August 3, when he collided with running back Israel Abanikanda.

Amid the injuries, there were also other positive updates, with coach Schottenheimer stating the plan for the season ahead of the second padded practice.

Two positives for the Dallas Cowboys as coach plans what to do next

Although some new names joined the injury report at the moment, there were some that are now on the verge of becoming fit for the team.

Safety P.J. Locke, who missed a couple of practices due to a hyperextended knee, returned to practice. Additionally, defensive back Jalen Thompson trained with the rehab group after returning from a hip flexor injury. Amid the injuries, coach Schottenheimer has made his plans clear.

“We’re trying to get ahead of the, you know, building the calluses, being physical,” he said, according to the Dallas Cowboys, on August 4. “Getting their conditioning in now. As we get into the season, we’ll adjust. Making this long run into the playoffs, we’re going to pick it back up, and it might not be like a training camp practice, but we’ll have pads on, and we’ll pop a little bit.”

While the Cowboys are getting plagued with injuries, the coach has set his plan straight. But will the stars be able to keep up with the tenacity?
