Dallas Cowboys Make Contract Decision Amid NFL Offseason

Along with kicker Brandon Aubrey, the Dallas Cowboys have placed a second-round tender on offensive lineman T.J. Bass, valued at $5.76 million.

This Restricted Free Agent tender can be placed on players whose contracts have expired and who have accrued three seasons. This means that other NFL teams can target these players, but the Cowboys can match the offer if they wish. If the Cowboys do not match the offer, then they will receive a second-round draft pick in return.

Tommy Yarrish of the DallasCowboys.com reports that the Cowboys' placing a second-round tender on Bass shows how much the Cowboys value Bass.

“The usage of a second-round tender on Bass speaks to the value the Cowboys see in him. Throughout his three seasons in Dallas, Bass has been as reliable a backup option at guard as anybody. Over the course of the last year, Dallas has even had him take some snaps at center,” Yarrish said about Bass.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer also spoke highly of both Bass and Aubrey at the NFL Combine.

"Both of those guys are studs. They're glue pieces for us. They're always prepared, they're ready. Both of those guys could start for other teams in the league; we're just very, very talented, like I just talked about. Both of those guys coming back would be big for us,” Schottenheimer said.

Bass has started in five out of the 16 regular-season games in 2025, with the first three starts at left guard and the last two at right guard.

NFL Analyst Skip Bayless thinks Aubrey is worth $10 million

With Brandon Aubrey looking to become the highest-paid kicker in NFL history, the question has been raised as to how far the Cowboys should go to retain him.

While the Cowboys have now placed a second-round tender on Aubrey, worth $5.76 million, some analysts believe he is worth his initial asking price of $10 million.

Veteran analyst Skip Bayless noted that Aubrey is worth the money he is asking for and that the Cowboys should look to retain him.

Aubrey is a three-time Pro Bowler and currently holds the record for the largest number of field goals from beyond 60 yards (6 goals). While there is no doubt that Aubrey deserves a high-paying contract, the only question left is how much that contract should be worth.
