The Dallas Cowboys have decided on kicker Brandon Aubrey’s contract. They have placed the second-round RFA tender worth $5.8 million on Aubrey.

This move allows Aubrey to accept offers from other NFL teams. The Cowboys can then match the offer. If the Cowboys choose not to, they would be offered a second-round draft pick in return.

According to Todd Archer from ESPN, Brandon Aubrey was looking to be the highest-paid kicker in NFL history, with the Cowboys offering him a deal close to $7.6 million, but his agent, Todd France, negotiated for a deal closer to $10 million.

With the RFA tender now being placed on Aubrey, the honor of being the highest-paid kicker still lies with the Kansas City Chiefs’ Harrison Butker at $6.4 million per season.

Speaking about the tender last week, Aubrey said, “Obviously, the tender is what the Cowboys have talked about, and that’s a good problem to have. It’s a good amount of money. It’s a big pay raise for me from before. But it’s not ideal for any player. We’ll see what happens. I’m excited to be in this position. It’s an opportunity for me just to be in this position, so thankful for that.”

The Restricted Free Agent tender is given to players whose contract has expired and have accrued three seasons.

Brandon Aubrey was signed by the Cowboys in 2023. He started his career as a soccer player at Notre Dame. He played in the UFL for the Birmingham Stallions.

Aubrey has had a stellar career with the Cowboys and holds the record for the most field goals from 60 yards or higher (6 goals). He is also a three-time Pro Bowler.

But that's not the only shuffle!

The Cowboys lose out on a key free agent

Maxx Crosby, the star edge rusher of the Las Vegas Raiders, has now found a new home with the Baltimore Ravens. Crosby was widely considered to be on the Cowboys’ radar, with ESPN reporting that they were ready to offer a first and second-round draft pick to the Raiders.

However, the Ravens have swooped in with two first-round picks offer and snagged the edge rusher.

The Cowboys are now looking at Trey Hendrickson, after the Cincinnati Bengals have put him up on the trade block. This pursuit could signal a renewed effort by the Bengals to strengthen the defensive front ahead of the upcoming season.
