A decision is imminent for Trey Hendrickson. The star pass rusher is expected to choose his new team tomorrow, per reports. With multiple offers on the table, the Dallas Cowboys are among the franchises closely watching his next move.
As per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, "Free agent pass rusher Trey Hendrickson is expected to make a formal decision tomorrow, per sources. Several teams continue to monitor the market and remain interested. He has offers on the table."
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Hendrickson has been holding out for a $30 million-a-year contract but has been unable to find a team that will meet his demands. The four-time Pro Bowl winner and sack leader (17.5) from the 2024 season fell on hard times last year after suffering a hip/pelvis injury, playing only seven games in the 2025 season.
Despite coming off a season hindered by injury, franchises like the Dallas Cowboys want to get the 31-year-old defensive end to bolster their roster. And Hendrickson can be the perfect addition alongside Rashan Gary. Signing Hendrickson would not require any draft capital.
The main obstacle is Hendrickson's contract demands. He feels they are justified based on other recent deals in the league.
Trey Hendrickson May Have to Bow to the NFL Market Pressure
Experts believe Hendrickson is having a tough time finding a new club that would agree to his $30 million-a-year deal because of a difference in their valuation. CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones has a number in mind as well.
"As of this morning, there were teams I spoke with who said the gap between what he wanted and what they were willing to pay was close to $10M per year."
Hendrickson's expectations are high because of two recent deals in the NFL. The Carolina Panthers have reportedly offered Jaelen Phillips a four-year, $120 million deal (with $80 million in guarantees), while the Houston Texans have signed a one-year, $40 million contract extension with Danielle Hunter.
Schefter explained that Hendrickson believes he is in the same status as these players. He is a strong-minded player who believes in his stock.
"He’s a very strong-minded, prideful person. He wants to get his price. And until he feels like he does, he’s not willing to compromise on that."
It remains to be seen whether a four-time Pro Bowler gets his price or the market wins this round.
