The Dallas Cowboys are firming up multiple contracts of key players ahead of the 2026 season. Executive Vice President Stephen Jones confirmed that they are looking to tie down kicker Brandon Aubrey to the squad in a long-term deal as soon as possible.
Speaking to The Dallas Morning News, Stephen Jones said, “We’ve been working on a long-term deal for some time. We’ve exchanged offers, and the goal is to get him signed. We’ll tender him before the deadline if that’s what we have to decide... We love him. He wants to be here, so that part is accomplished."
Aubrey was signed to the Cowboys on a three-year, $2.695 million deal, which is set to expire, making him a free agent this offseason. Aubrey has had a standout career with the Cowboys so far, and achieved Pro Bowl honors for each of his first three seasons, and was the first kicker in league history to do so.
He has made over 88 percent of his field goals and currently holds the record for the most career 60+ yard field goals, having converted six kicks so far.
The Cowboys are looking to avoid losing key players
Stephen Jones has also confirmed that the Cowboys will be placing the franchise tag on George Pickens in the next week. The franchise tag for the wide receiver is estimated to be around $28 million.
They have also confirmed running back Javonte Williams to a three-year, $24 million deal, locking him into the squad.
This is in stark contrast to the haphazard negotiations of last year, which ended in the unceremonious trade of Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. The Parsons trade last year sealed the fate for the Cowboys and kept them from reaching the playoffs.
It’s also to be noted that Parsons and George Pickens share the same agent in David Mulugheta, who orchestrated Parsons’ move to the Packers.
So, it should come as refreshing news that Stephen Jones is looking to place the franchise tag on George Pickens.
