Dallas Hand Broncos Major Setback After Top Free Agent Signs One-Year Deal, Reports

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have swayed P.J. Locke away from the Mile-High City.

The veteran safety will play his football at the AT&T Stadium this fall. Locke has signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys, and this ends his six-year tenure with the Denver Broncos.

For the Cowboys and Christian Parker, this will be a welcome addition for them in their quest to rebuild that defense. Dallas gets a defender who has worked with their defensive coordinator before. Locke and Parker worked together in Denver while he was the Denver Broncos’ defensive backs coach from 2021 to 2023.

For Locke himself, this is more of a homecoming. Having played his college football with the Texas Longhorns and being a Texas native, he will now play for the Dallas Cowboys. More importantly, Locke is returning on a personal mission.

Locke is still playing football despite a serious operation. In 2025, the safety had a spinal fusion procedure to fix a degenerated disc in his vertebrae. Players usually do not come back and play football after a surgery like that, but that did not stop Locke.

Locke ends his time with the Denver Broncos and starts fresh in Frisco, Texas.

What did Locke say to the Broncos fans as he left for a new franchise?

After signing a one-year, $5 million deal to sign with the Cowboys, Locke took his time and made a post on X thanking the Broncos fans.

The post stated, “Broncos Country, For the past 7 years, you guys have made Denver feel like home for my family and I. Things didn’t work out business-wise, but just know you guys hold a very, very special place in my heart that I can’t put into words.”

Further, Locke added, “From the coaches, front office, friends, teammates, and all the other relationships that were built. It’s hard moving on for sure, trust me. We love you guys and wish the best of luck to everyone. Much love, P.J. Locke III #6.”

In his six seasons with the Broncos, Locke managed 174 total tackles, of which 110 were solo. Locke also recorded four sacks and five forced fumbles.
