The Dallas Cowboys have a new defensive weapon in their arsenal, Cobie Durant. And in his first interview for the Cowboys, he has some encouraging words for his new teammate, quarterback Dak Prescott.
While talking to Nicole Hutchison on the Dallas Cowboys YouTube channel, Durant opened up about his game plan under defensive coordinator Christian Parker.
“Just create takeaways and get the ball back to Dak, let Dak do what he do, I’m excited for it, got great guys in that secondary,” said Durant.
Cobie Durant has signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys that is worth up to $5.5 million. The cornerback joins the secondary as a playmaker defender.
The cornerback joins Dallas after an impressive 2025 season. He recorded 40 total tackles, of which 30 were solo. Durant picked away the football three times and had seven passes defended. This will be his fifth NFL season.
Although Durant lacks height and size, his confidence and athleticism compensate for it. Durant mentioned the Cowboys Nation on what sort of defender they are getting.
“They getting a guy that the media said that’s too small, but it ain't all about the size and the dog, it’s the size and the heart of the dog, coming to make plays and on this defense.”
The Cowboys' head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, has been clear on what kind of players he needs on his team, and Durant meets his criteria.
How Does Durant Fit Into the Cowboys' Game Plans?
Durant has found a new home in Dallas, Texas, and will play his football at the AT&T Stadium this fall. Earlier this year, head coach Schottenheimer had talked to the press about the team's need for defensive players.
Schottenheimer confessed the Cowboys were looking at young cornerbacks and discussed what he and defensive coordinator Christian Parker were seeking in a player.
"Whether it's height, weight, speed, whether it's characteristics, toughness, ability to track a ball, the lower body explosiveness for a corner that we're looking for."
Durant's performances tick all the right boxes for the Cowboys. He has the "lower body explosiveness" that Schottenheimer wants to see in his secondary.
Bret Stuter of Ramblin’ Fan sums up his consistency in the secondary perfectly.
"Cobie Durant was one of the most consistent cornerbacks in an inconsistent secondary for the Rams in 2025. He emerged as a ball hawker, pulling in 3 INT’s, including one 1 pick-6."
This is exactly what Christian Parker and the Dallas Cowboys defense will be looking for: a consistent defender who goes out and gives it his all.
