Deion Sanders’ ex-wife, Carolyn Chambers Sanders, has largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years. However, her son, Deion Sanders Jr., has now shed light on the personal hardships that she faced away from the spotlight.

Deion Sanders has been ever-present in the spotlight even after his career in the NFL, especially through social media. However, the same cannot be said for his ex-wife, Carolyn. Now, Deion Sanders Jr., aka Bucky, has opened up about the troubles that his mother faced over the years on his personal YouTube channel.

“She’s been through a lot,” said Sanders Jr. on his mother’s experiences on the July 18 episode of the Well Off Media podcast. “She lost her brother. She lost her sister. She d*** near lost everybody, you know, she still got us, but she lost a lot of her family.”

Sanders Jr., on his Well Off Media YouTube channel, also mentioned how faith has been a constant in both his and his mother’s life and how that has helped their life.

“Through tough times, it’s really hard to trust God, and sometimes you ask God why,” said Sanders Jr. “Sometimes you get mad at God, but she kept faith through it all, and she was a great mother, and she still taught us no matter what’s going on. You know, there’s a reason for everything.”

The couple, who started dating in 1987, got married in 1989 in an intimate destination wedding ceremony in Lake Tahoe. The couple has two children: Deion Sanders Jr. and Deiondra Sanders. Deion and Carolyn, however, got a divorce in 1998.

While Deion Sanders has been very much present in the spotlight, especially after becoming the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football team, Sanders Jr.’s comments have provided a rare glimpse into Carolyn's personal journey.

As Deion Jr. reflects on a personal journey, Deion Sanders is also watching closely as one of his sons' NFL future begins to take shape.

Cowboys linked to Shedeur Sanders, son of Deion Sanders

Sanders is a legend in the NFL and was a key contributor in the Dallas Cowboys' winning their last Super Bowl in the 1995 season. However, now over 30 years later, his son, Shedeur Sanders, quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, has been linked to join the Cowboys, according to Cooper Kleinberg of Pro Football Network.

Sanders is only just coming off his rookie year after he was selected in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he was not able to establish himself as a starter-level quarterback with the Browns, as he threw for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also finished with a record of three wins and four losses as a starter last year.

Now, with speculation circling about Sanders being a trade candidate during the offseason, Kleinberg believes that the Cowboys could be one of three possible landing spots for him.

"What type of offseason would it be if Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys weren't linked to a polarizing, big-name player like Sanders?" wrote Kleinberg. "Jones could acquire Sanders for relatively cheap and give him the opportunity to develop under Dak Prescott as the team's long-term backup."

The Cowboys have traded picks for backup quarterbacks for two straight seasons. While trading a fourth-round pick for former third overall pick Trey Lance three years ago and trading a fifth-round pick in 2025 for Joe Milton III didn't work out, Kleinberg thinks that the third time could be the charm.

It's a good opportunity for the Cowboys to get Sanders, somebody who is still young and has potential. However, it will all depend on the price quoted for him by the Browns.
