Deion Sanders Hypocrisy In Highlight As Cowboys Legend Makes U-Turn On Myles Garret Trade

Coach Prime Deion Sanders appears to have softened his stance on the Cleveland Browns' decision to trade DE Myles Garrett months after opposing the move.

Speaking with sports journalist D.J. Saddiqi of Covers.com, Sanders said he trusts Browns general manager Andrew Berry's vision despite previously questioning the idea of moving one of the NFL's top defensive players.

"I'm happy with Mr. Berry, the G.M., and what he's doing; I'm not going to question his direction of what he's bringing to the table," Sanders said. "I'm not there, so I don't know all the intangibles that provoked that trade. I'm happy with what they got, and I can't wait to see how it plays out."

The comments stood out because Sanders had taken a much stronger position before the trade was completed. At the time, he argued that Garrett was the type of player Cleveland should never consider moving.

“I’m tired of y’all talking about trading him and getting rid of him,” Sanders said during an earlier appearance with Garrett Bush. “That don’t make no sense to me. That’s a once-in-a-lifetime man.”

But Sanders took it a step further, asserting that it would take a spectacular return package for the Browns to trade Garrett.

The Browns eventually moved forward with the blockbuster deal, sending Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.

Sanders did not directly explain what led to his softer stance. However, his latest comments came after the Browns completed the deal and secured a package that included Jared Verse and multiple draft picks.

Why Deion Sanders' Earlier Garrett Comments Are Back In Focus

Part of the debate surrounding Sanders' comments stems from the package Cleveland received in return for Garrett.

The deal brought back former Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse, along with three future draft picks, giving the Browns both immediate help and long-term assets.

That return has become part of the discussion surrounding Sanders' apparent change in tone. Before the trade, he described Garrett as a "once in a lifetime" player.

After the deal was finalized, however, Sanders said he was happy with what Cleveland received and interested in seeing how Berry's plan unfolds.

Whether fans view that as a true U-turn or simply acceptance of a completed deal, Sanders' comments have become part of the ongoing conversation surrounding one of the NFL's biggest offseason moves.
