Deion Sanders just defended son Shedeur with just one word

After ESPN analyst Rex Ryan publicly criticized Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders' attitude, the Hall of Famer and Shedeur's father, Deion Sanders, fired back with a simple response against the claim.

Deion Sanders took to X and responded with a single word, as he reposted Browns analyst Garrett Bush’s video, where the Browns sports analyst praised Shedeur for hosting a free youth football camp.

 “PREACH,” Sanders’ X post read.

Bush pushed back on the criticism of Shedeur, as shown in the X post clip reposted by Sanders on July 23, as he defended the Browns QB for giving back to the community, which contradicts Ryan’s criticism of Shedeur advising the quarterback to have a "more we than me" mentality.

Shedeur and the Browns hosted a free youth football camp for 500 youth athletes in third through eighth grade on July 19, from Northeast Ohio and Columbus, according to Kelsey Russo of ClevelandBrowns.com

“He just gave the camp, right?” Bush said in the same clip reposted by Deion Sanders. “You spend a bunch of money to go down there. So for Rex Ryan to take that opportunity, when somebody is doing something good in their community, to do something where he’s going to garner some respect or garner some clicks. Bro, it wasn’t even about that.”

Former New York Jets and current ESPN analyst Rex Ryan called out Shedeur Sanders for his “me-attitude" during a photoshoot in which dozens of his Browns jersey No. 12s were in the background, as posted by analyst Dov Kleiman on July 19.

Bush further questioned Ryan on what makes him say that Shedeur Sanders is a "me guy", as he believes the ESPN analyst is using the criticism to capitalize on something for his benefit.

“When you’re saying, ‘Oh, it’s a me guy’ when he’s out here trying to do something for the community and did it free of charge," Bush said, according to the clip. "That tells me more about you than it tells me about him because you using that to capitalize on something that don’t even need to be talked about.”

As Shedeur enters training camp competing with Deshaun Watson for the starter role through preseason, the conversation has now shifted from offseason criticism to on-field performance.

Shedeur Sanders expected to settle into QB2 role entering 2026

Alex Kay of Bleacher Report believes that Watson is the current favorite for the starter quarterback position, while Shedeur is expected to fill in his role in case of Watson's injury.

"Sanders may have been the best of Cleveland's quarterback options last season, but his status as the club's starting signal-caller is far from secure," Alex Kay of Bleacher Report wrote in his article. "Realistic Expectation: QB2 barring an injury or ineffective stretch from Watson."

Kay believes that Watson's superior arm talent and experience give him an edge to win the role, considering his availability and health status after multiple injury-plagued seasons. However, he acknowledges Sanders being a fan-favorite.

Kay expects both quarterbacks to receive first-team reps throughout training camp and compete through the postseason before the Browns decide on a starter.
