Recently, quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been linked with the Dallas Cowboys. While no trade talks have emerged, analysts believe Deion Sanders' long-standing relationship with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is one reason the speculation refuses to fade.
"People keep linking him to the Dallas Cowboys because of Coach Prime’s connection with Jerry Jones, even though the move makes little sense from a football perspective," wrote Sami Haider of the Sporting News.
Jerry Jones and Coach Prime's relationship dates back to their Super-Bowl-winning days. This relationship can outbalance roster and salary cap considerations.

"Jones could acquire Sanders for relatively cheap and give him the opportunity to develop behind Dak Prescott as the team’s long-term backup," wrote analyst Cooper Kleinberg of Pro Football Network, June 1, 2026.
Prescott remains the Cowboys' unquestioned starting quarterback. No sources report an official deal; Shedeur remains part of the Cleveland Browns, as per Sami Haider of the Sporting News.
However, Cleveland is going to examine Shedeur's progress rather than rushing into a trade. They have already invested time in developing him and have practical reasons to keep Shedeur.
While Deion Sanders' relationship with Jones continues to fuel speculation, the reality of Dallas' quarterback depth chart tells a very different story.
Shedeur Sanders' Cowboys buzz hits major reality check over Dak Prescott
Shedeur Sanders' buzz of joining the Cowboys would create more questions than answers, as Dallas is not an ideal landing spot for Shedeur, as per the same article by Haider of Sporting News.
"From a football perspective, the Cowboys are not a good fit for Shedeur because he wouldn't get the chance to start any games," wrote Haider.
Dallas offers little opportunity for Shedeur to see the field. With Prescott as the starter, the Cowboys have little incentive to develop another young quarterback for a starting role.
For now, the Cowboys speculation appears to be driven more by Deion Sanders' connection with Jerry Jones than by any realistic football fit, leaving Shedeur's future in Cleveland unchanged.
