The Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown recently delivered a bold message about his key role under the new defensive coordinator Christian Parker’s defensive scheme.
During the June 9 OTA media session, Overshown shared that he is ready to take on the challenge of playing as a MIKE linebacker, along with the green dot responsibility given to him by DC Parker.
"I've got to be CP on the field, that's what we talked about a lot,” Overshown said, per X post of the Cowboys Network. “I've got to be an extension of him on the field. We all know what year this is for me; it's a contract year, and you so I've got an opportunity to prove myself."
Overshown recorded 28 tackles (15 solo) and one tackle for loss for six games played in 2025, after being reactivated in November 2025 ahead of a Week 11 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.
He suffered an ACL, MCL, and PCL tear during the 2024 Week 15 game, making him sit out for the rest of the season and the majority of the 2025 season as well.
Overshown embraced the challenge of his new role as he always wanted to be a MIKE linebacker - ‘the guy who leads the defense to the next level.’
"I've been wanting to be MIKE for the longest, since my rookie year," Overshown said, per Tommy Yarrish of Dallas Cowboys.com. "I felt like it was going to come to a time where I wore the 'C' on my chest and I had the green dot, and now I've got it."
The move to middle linebacker unlocks Overshown’s potential in a better way than his weakside linebacker role last year.
He was responsible for one side of the field, ‘ running from sideline to sideline’. But now he has a central view of the field and can gain more tackles in either direction.
Overshown believes that his role as the MIKE gives him the freedom to take care of both sides of the field.
"I learned that in order for us to be the great defense that we're going to be, I'm going to have to be the great leader that I have to be," Overshown said.
After returning to the football field post-recovery and heading into training camp for the 2026 season, the linebacker has also achieved a significant personal milestone.
Overshown Marks Personal Milestone With Wedding in Texas
Overshown married his long-term girlfriend, Alexis Babino, in Tyler, Texas, on June 6.
Though he missed the OTAs because of his wedding, Overshown is motivated to win the Super Bowl Championship ring this season, while heading into the contract year.
"This offseason, it's just more special because it's the next one," Overshown said, per Tommy Yarrish of DallasCowboys.com. "I got married, I secured that bag, and now it's time to go get that Super Bowl ring."
A recently turned family man, Overshown, was drafted in 2023 as the 90th overall pick. In two seasons with the Cowboys, he has played in 19 games, starting 17, and recorded 118 combined tackles (71 solo), five sacks, four pass deflections, and one interception.
Overshown believes that if he 'plays good football,' the contract situation will take care of itself, as he remains confident in his playmaking ability.
