Eli Stowers isn't a typical NFL draft prospect. The former quarterback is now a tight end catching the Dallas Cowboys' attention. His unconventional path could be his biggest strength or a significant risk.
Stowers came into college as a four-star quarterback and one of the better recruits in his class. But his role kept changing. He moved to tight end at Texas A&M, went back to quarterback later, and then found his footing after transferring.
That change worked out at Vanderbilt. Once he stayed at tight end, his numbers improved. In 2025, he recorded a career-high of 62 receptions across 769 yards. He also averaged 12.4 yards per reception.
Physically, he has what teams look for. At 6-foot-3 and 239 pounds, he ran a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash. As per NFL expert Marus Mosher, "He’s a field-stretching tight end who can attack the middle of the field, but also win in the short areas of the field with his YAC ability."

He is also dependable when the ball comes his way. He had only six drops in his career. His leaping ability also helps, especially when the ball is not perfectly placed.
There are still concerns. He is already 23 and does not have a lot of experience at tight end. Blocking is also a weak part of his game, which could limit how teams use him early.
That mix makes his draft value interesting. This mix of skill and inexperience makes his draft value complex, particularly for a team like Dallas.
How Eli Stowers could fit in the Dallas offense
A player like Stowers gives them a different type of option, especially in the middle of the field, where he can find space and make plays.
He would not be used like a traditional tight end. His role would be closer to a big slot target who can stretch the field and add yards after the catch. That is where he can help the most.
He runs well and can separate from defenders. Once he has the ball, he can pick up extra yards, which makes him useful in short and medium routes.
There is a comparison to Mike Gesicki when it comes to usage. Both are used more as receivers than blockers. But Stowers offers more movement after the catch, which adds another layer to his game.
At the same time, his blocking remains an issue. He may not stay on the field in every situation, especially when the offense needs support in the run game.
Moreover, he looks like a second-round prospect. He may not fit every system, but for a team looking for a receiving tight end, he can still be a valuable addition.
