Emmanuel Acho shares emotional message following Chris Johnson’s ALS diagnosis

Emmanuel Acho shared an emotional message of support after former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis.

Speaking on SpeakEasy, Acho praised Johnson's family while reflecting on the devastating impact of the disease.

"I praise God for his wife, Britney," said Acho on his podcast, SpeakEasy. "I praise God for his children that continue to keep him going. ALS, I would suggest, is one of the worst of diseases that mankind has had to face because you're living your functioning mentally to the fullest of capacities."

Acho talked about the emotional drainage of patients due to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, on the @speakeasy YouTube Video. He emphasized the importance of family support during such a difficult time.

Acho's comments came after Johnson publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with sporadic ALS in 2025 after first noticing weakness in his grip. The former All-Pro said he chose to share his story to raise awareness about the disease.

Johnson has been one of the most explosive running backs. The three-time Pro Bowler finished his 10-year career with 2,163 attempts for 9,651 rushing yards and 55 touchdowns.

As Johnson continues his fight with ALS, the immense support from across the NFL shows the lasting impact he made as a player.

Chris Johnson receives overwhelming support from the Titans

Johnson retired in 2017, and the Titans have shown great support after his shocking ALS news at the age of 39. The Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk spoke about his impact on the Nashville community.

"Some people leave a mark on an organization that you just can't put into words," said Amy Adams Strunk on June 29, as per Natasha Dye of People Magazine. "Chris Johnson is one of those people for us."

Strunk called Johnson one of those people whose leadership and presence will forever be part of the Titans' story, adding that the team will support him while keeping him and his family close.

Johnson played for the Tennessee Titans for six years, where he rushed for 1,000 or more yards every season with the Titans. He recorded 2,006 rushing yards during the 2009 season, earning NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors, and totaled 7,895 rushing yards in Tennessee.

Despite the progression of the disease, Johnson has vowed to keep fighting, saying ALS has changed his body but not who he is.
