The New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart recently sparked debate after introducing the President of the United States at a political rally. Social media reactions varied; a former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver weighed in with his own take.
Former Cowboys WR Dez Bryant shared the message on X.
He expressed that athletes often draw criticism no matter where people stand politically, and stressed that everyone is entitled to their own views.
“I really don’t understand the hate Jaxson Dart got for introducing President Trump. Good or bad…if you support Trump or not…you're in a lose-lose situation. Politics and religion are difficult for sports. Folks have the right to believe in whatever the f*** they want,” the post said.
Dart introduced President Trump at Rockland Community College in Suffern, drawing backlash from fans and other league players.
He was present at the campaign for Republican Congressman Mike Lawler, who is up for re-election in a ‘tough swing’ district, according to Danielle Campoamor of US Magazine.
Dart welcomed the crowd before introducing President Donald Trump, saying it was an honor to be part of the event. After the introduction, the two shook hands, and Trump thanked the Giants quarterback while calling him a "future Hall of Famer."
“I don't know..I just live by a code,” per X post of Dez Bryant. “As long as it's not interfering with my s***..do whatever you want because you've got to take whatever you're on up with God. I'm too much of a sinner to be judgmental and political.“
Though Bryant was neutral about Dart’s introduction, the media and players are not, taking it as a representation of the team.
Abdul Carter Takes a Different View Than Jaxson Dart on Trump
The Giants' linebacker Abdul Carter recently spoke to the media after Friday's OTA at the Giants team facility. He expressed his 'disagreement' with Dart attending Trump’s rally in New York.
“Some things are bigger than football, and this is one of those things,” Carter said, per ESPN.
“Jaxson is one of our leaders. He’s the face of our franchise. He not only represents himself and what he does, but he represents all of us, and that goes for anybody who wears a Giants uniform,” he added.
He initially commented on a video where Dart introduced Trump, which was circulating on social media on May 22.
“Thought this s*** was AI,” Carter wrote on X. “What we doing man?”
But later on during the media session at the OTAs, he acknowledged their differing beliefs.
Carter made it clear there is no rift between them, as both remain committed to the Giants' success.
