The former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle, Tony Casillas, met with a personal loss. His wife, Tamara, passed away on March 30, 2026. Tony took to X to appreciate the concerns of well-wishers from his Cowboys family.
He shared a picture on X with Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott. In the caption, the ex-Cowboys star wrote about Prescott sharing his personal struggles through grief.
“Much respect to @dak for taking the time to be so personal and real with my son and I,” wrote Tony on May 3. “He shared his story about losing loved ones and opened up about how he’s navigated grief, and that meant more than he probably knows.”
A breast cancer survivor, Tamara, was married to Tony for 29 years. She had known him for 32 years before she passed away. For the 2x Super Bowl winner, his wife was his 'rock', 'best friend', and a 'constant' through his personal and professional hardships.
Casillas, along with his wife Tamara, served as an honorary co-chair for the Komen Dallas Race for the Cure in 2015. She has been an ‘advocate for causes close to her heart’, supporting breast cancer patients. Tamara also spread her experience with autistic and special needs children.
Losing his wife now leaves a huge void in Tony’s life. He also shared in the post that athletes often struggle because they are expected to constantly appear mentally tough.
“In a world where people often only see the athlete, we got to see the man… humble, compassionate, and genuine,” Casillas' X post read. “Thank you, brother, for your honesty, your time, and for pouring into my son during a time when words truly matter."
In this difficult time, Tony was deeply moved by Prescott's gesture. The quarterback sat with him and his son, Jett, sharing his own experiences with loss. It offered a perspective that made their meeting more deep and meaningful.
Dak Prescott’s Personal Journey Through Loss
Prescott lost his mother to colon cancer in 2013 and his older brother, Jace, in 2020. He initiated Faith Fight Finish Foundation, which has colon cancer research as its original mission, advocating mental health awareness.
Prescott recently attended the Annual Gala for the Children’s Cancer Fund, a Dallas-based nonprofit. He is a prominent honorary chair and supporter of this organization, which raises money to fund pediatric cancer research and care.
“When I meet them [the parents], I try to give them just as much love, because losing my mom to cancer, I understand that sometimes the parents need the same support as the patients,” Prescott said during the Children’s Cancer Fund Gala 2026 in April.
Dak Prescott has used his platform to support families facing loss, making his impact felt far beyond the field.
