Ex-Eagles DE Bryce Huff Makes Strong 49ers Claim Over Eagles

Bryce Huff faced a tough decision: deciding between the better all-time squads of his former teams.

When he was asked to choose between the all-time head-to-head rosters of the Eagles and 49ers, Huff favored the latter when it came to defensive backs.

"I would have to just go Niners because I don't know anybody you named on the Eagle side," said Huff on the Caps Off Podcast.

It started when the host started off by asking who had the best roster between the Eagles and the 49ers. Coming to the defensive backs, Huff was asked to compare Deion Sanders, Richard Sherman, and Ronnie Lott and Brian Dawkins, Malcolm Jenkins, and Eric Allen.

Now, Dawkins and Allen are Hall of Famers in their own right, and Jenkins helped bring Philadelphia its first Super Bowl title. However, the 49ers' side simply has more championship pedigree.

Sanders and Lott are among the greatest defensive cornerbacks in NFL history, combining for six Super Bowl rings, while Sherman also built a career with five Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl title of his own.

But that wasn't all. Earlier in the same conversation, Huff picked Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman, and Fred Warner as his choice over anyone else.

"No brainer. I don't even need to know the Eagles one," Huff said on the same podcast.

Willis was known for being everywhere on the field and making strong tackles, while Bowman matched him with his instincts and speed. And Warner just finished the 2025 season with a career-best 93.2 defensive grade overall.

That's the side Huff is backing, and given that he has played for both teams, his pick is even more interesting. There may also be more to his choice, considering he arrived in Philadelphia in 2024 but asked for a trade to the 49ers just a year later.

How Huff Left Philadelphia: Contract, Injury, and Benching

The Eagles signed Huff to a three-year, $51 million deal in 2024 after he put up 10 sacks with the Jets the previous season. But Huff couldn't thrive under Vic Fangio's defense.

A wrist injury sidelined him for five games, limiting him to just 12 games. He finished the year with 13 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. By the playoffs, he was barely on the field, recording only 13 defensive snaps. The real setback for him was when he was ruled inactive for the Super Bowl game.

"It's cool to say like I was part of a Super Bowl winning team, but like the way that that went down, like me finding out that I wasn't playing, I lost so much respect for people involved," he said on the same podcast.

Eventually, Huff found his way to San Francisco and recorded 4 sacks and 2 forced fumbles earlier in the season. He also made it clear what stands out to him in San Francisco.

"[The 49ers] have a die-hard fanbase, full supporters. I think that goes a long way," Huff said. Given how his time in Philadelphia ended, that appreciation may be one of the reasons why he sided with the 49ers.
