The debate surrounding Jalen Hurts refuses to die in Philadelphia, despite the quarterback continuing to stack up wins and postseason success. This week, former Eagles star Hugh Douglas stepped in to defend Hurts publicly.

Former Eagles player Hugh Douglas has publicly defended Jalen Hurts on WIP radio and criticized co-host Joe Giglio for his ongoing negative take on the quarterback.

“There’s not a person that has played the game that does not feel the way that I do,” Douglas said. “It is on the quarterback. Winning is a quarterback stat. Yes... Anything else outside of that, it's on if we lose, if they get more score, more points than us, then it's on the defense. That's the logic in the game.”

The discussion on the 94 WIP Radio show focused on whether wins and losses should be fully credited to the quarterback.

During this radio talk, Joe Giglio did not give full credit to Jalen Hurts for the Philadelphia Eagles’ success, which brought strong pushback from Hugh Douglas.

The record of Jalen Hurts speaks for itself. He has won 57 of his 82 starts, showing he helps his team win often.

In his career, he has thrown for around 17,000 yards with 110 touchdowns and 45 interceptions. His completion rate is about 64%, showing solid passing accuracy. Still, the QB has never had a 4,000-yard season.

In recent seasons, he has also added more touchdowns, including 25 in 2025, while keeping mistakes low. In fact, he's only been in double-digit interceptions once in his career.

Hugh Douglas defended Jalen Hurts and said he deserves more credit for what he has done.

At the same time, Hurts’ performance and win record show his value to the Philadelphia Eagles, even with the ongoing debate around him.

This discussion and his strong record have shifted the focus from past talks, and attention now turns to his upcoming season.

NFL analyst points to 2026 challenges for Jalen Hurts

According to Glenn Erby of USA TODAY, Jalen Hurts will enter the upcoming season with a very different wide receiver group. A.J. Brown, the team's top target in 2025, was traded to the Patriots, has been traded to the Patriots, creating a big gap in the offense.

"Looking ahead, Hurts' upside in 2026 is largely tied to how well he adapts to working in new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion's system, as well as how things shake out in terms of the team's collective approach to replacing Brown," Erby said.

The Eagles have brought in players like Makai Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks, Hollywood Brown, and Elijah Moore, with DeVonta Smith still being a key target.

The upcoming season will be a big test for Hurts with a changed team around him.

What do you think about how Jalen Hurts will handle this new situation with the Philadelphia Eagles?
