Former Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney believes Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys have what it takes to end the franchise's long Super Bowl drought. After an active offseason, Hurney sees Dallas as one of the NFL's most improved teams heading into 2026.
“I think the Chargers and the Cowboys are the two most improved teams in the league, for me, as far as moving up to a position where they could really win the whole thing," Hurney told Jason La Canfora of FanSided.
Hurney also credited the quarterback-head coach duo as a major reason for his confidence in the team.
"They both have the QB, and they have that QB-head coach combination… Jerry has done a heck of a job this year,” Hurney added.

Dallas made some important additions during the offseason and brought in help on both sides of the ball.
The team also enters the season with a healthy Dak Prescott, which has given many around the league more confidence in the Cowboys' chances.
Prescott's numbers also support Hurney's confidence in Dallas. The Cowboys quarterback has thrown for 35,989 yards and 243 touchdowns in his career while earning four Pro Bowl selections.
He also finished the 2025 season with 4,552 passing yards and 30 touchdowns, showing that he remains a key part of the team's plans for the new season.
With an improved squad and Dak Prescott in form, Dallas will now aim to turn expectations into results in the 2026 season and finally end its Super Bowl drought.
Along with Hurney’s comments, confidence inside the Cowboys camp has also been shared by the coaching staff as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
Schottenheimer confident in Cowboys ahead of new Season
Brian Schottenheimer, the Dallas Cowboys head coach, made this statement during the June 18, 2026, minicamp press conference. According to the @DallasCowboys YouTube video, Schottenheimer was confident with the Cowboys' 2026 roster.
“I feel very,” Schottenheimer said. “Very confident and believe we're going to find a way to be in that game (the Super Bowl) and win it.”
He also added that the team’s defense is improving during offseason work, which is giving the coaching staff more confidence ahead of the new season.
“I’m very confident. I love our roster," HC added.
With confidence building both inside and outside the organization, Prescott and the Cowboys will now look to justify those Super Bowl expectations in the 2026 season.
