The Dallas Cowboys started their preseason with a 17-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday (August 15). With several players sitting out, the game gave other members of the roster a chance to show what they could do.

Some Cowboys players made a strong case for themselves, while others continued to make the competition for roster spots interesting. Here are five Dallas players who stood out against the Seahawks.

1. Camden Brown

Undrafted rookie wide receiver Camden Brown had one of the best performances for the Cowboys. The former Georgia Southern receiver showed that he can make big plays even when facing tight coverage.

According to Dallasnews.com, Brown caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Sam Howell to give Dallas its first touchdown of the preseason. He later added another touchdown with a one-handed catch from Joe Milton in the third quarter.

Brown finished the game with three catches for 62 yards. After also getting attention during training camp, his performance against Seattle could help his chances of earning a roster spot.

2. Michael Trigg

Michael Trigg also made a strong impression against the Seahawks. The former Baylor tight end made several important catches and helped the Cowboys create opportunities for their offense.

Trigg finished the game with four catches for 30 yards. He also made a first-down catch while dealing with contested coverage.

Trigg has already been part of the discussion during training camp as a player who could compete for a roster spot. His performance on Saturday only added to that conversation.

3. Sam Howell

Sam Howell started the game at quarterback and played the first half. He completed 8 of 12 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown.

Howell also added 15 rushing yards on two carries. His performance continued the positive work he had shown during training camp.

The Cowboys have been happy with the way Howell has played while competing with Joe Milton for the backup quarterback job. His showing against Seattle gave him another chance to make his case.

4. Joe Milton

Joe Milton continued the strong quarterback play after taking over from Howell. He completed 12 of 15 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Milton also connected with Brown for the receiver’s second touchdown of the game. His accurate passing helped Dallas maintain its offensive momentum in the second half.

The backup quarterback competition was already being closely watched during training camp. Milton’s performance against Seattle gave the Cowboys another reason to continue evaluating both quarterbacks.

5. Malik Davis

Running back Malik Davis also used the preseason opener to make his case for the Cowboys. Davis has received multiple opportunities with Dallas, and he continued to show the explosiveness that has kept him in the team’s plans.

Davis finished with seven carries for 39 yards against Seattle. He showed good shiftiness and an ability to gain extra yards on his runs.

The Cowboys have several other running backs competing for spots, including 2025 draft picks Blue and Mafah. With Davis also offering value on special teams, his performance could help him stay in the roster conversation.

The preseason opener gave several Cowboys players an important opportunity. Brown, Trigg, Howell, Milton and Davis all used their chances to put themselves in a better position as Dallas continues preparing for the 2026 season.
