George Pickens is still waiting for a long-term contract from the Dallas Cowboys, but that has not changed his approach this offseason. The Pro Bowl receiver has continued working with his teammates ahead of training camp.

According to Sports Illustrated's Josh Sanchez, Pickens recently joined Dak Prescott's annual offensive retreat in Utah. The trip gave Dallas' offensive players another chance to build chemistry before camp begins later this month. 

The gathering comes just weeks before Dallas reports to training camp in Oxnard. This year's meet-up featured all offensive skill players, including Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, led by Prescott.

Pickens' presence stood out because questions had lingered about his contract situation after he skipped the voluntary portion of organized team activities earlier this offseason, as reported by Sanchez.

Despite that, he reported for mandatory minicamp and has now taken another step toward building chemistry with Prescott. Photos shared from the retreat showed full participation from Dallas' offensive core, including Pickens.

The Cowboys made it clear they do not intend to negotiate a long-term extension before the July 15 deadline. Pickens signed his franchise tender following the 2026 NFL Draft and is set to earn $27.3 million this season. 

If both parties don't decide on a long-term deal, the 25-year-old will have to play out the season with the tag fixed on him.

After posting 93 receptions, 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 2025, he'll enter the new campaign looking to strengthen his case for a lucrative extension.

His approach to the offseason has also started changing the conversation around his future.

George Pickens' maturity is drawing praise

According to FanSided's writer Wynston Wilcox, Pickens' actions this offseason reflect a different approach from the receiver who drew criticism during his early years with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"Instead of causing drama, Pickens is going about business as usual. It's one more reason why Jerry Jones should seriously consider giving Pickens a long-term extension," Wilcox wrote on July 12.

Instead of making his contract the main story, Pickens has continued taking part in team activities. Even without a new deal in place, he has stayed focused on preparing for the season.

Wilcox believes that approach only helps Pickens' case. Rather than drawing attention to the contract situation, the receiver has let his work on the field do the talking.

Waiting could also become costly for Dallas. If Pickens delivers another strong season and plays a key role in a playoff push, his asking price is likely to rise.

For now, Pickens appears focused on football. His appearance at Dak Prescott's offseason retreat suggested his priority remains camaraderie with teammates.
