George Pickens Steps Away from Cowboys Situation as Latest Plans Revealed

Mar 29, 2026, 6:03 PM CUT

George Pickens' future with the Dallas Cowboys remains uncertain. While contract talks continue, the star receiver is shifting his focus to a new project this summer, revealing plans that give a glimpse into his off-field priorities.

NFL expert Brandon Loree reported that Pickens is set to host what appears to be his first youth football camp on July 10, 2026.

“#Cowboys George Pickens is hosting a youth football camp on July 10. I’d say this might be the first time in the offseason the media gets to ask him about a new deal if he holds out, but we know how that assumption went last time (iykyk). let’s just keep it about the kids,” Loree wrote on X.

FLEXWORK Sports takes center stage as the main sponsor for his upcoming youth camp. Set for July 10, 2026, from 3 to 7 PM at Memorial High School in Frisco, Texas.

The camp opens its doors to boys and girls aged 6 to 16. The announcement comes amid ongoing questions over Pickens' long-term future in Dallas.

Even With an Explosive Season, Pickens Is a Maybe for the Cowboys

After discipline issues in Pittsburgh, Pickens had a breakthrough run in his last year of a rookie deal. The 25-year-old wide receiver lit up the field with his top-notch performances. His 1,429 receiving yards were the third-most in the league alongside nine touchdowns.

His first season with the Cowboys was his career best, which earned him a franchise tag and made him a player to watch out for. But it's not that simple.

While no discussion has revealed any details, ESPN reported that Pickens would earn about $28 million in 2026 with the franchise tag.

Since the tag is non-exclusive, he is permitted to talk with other franchises. Some reports suggest that the Cowboys and Pickens want to partner up in the long term.

If Pickens stays, it would be a part of a long-term plan. He proved himself a “menace” and a reliable player who kept up and even surpassed No. 1 wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

While the Cowboys make up their minds, Pickens is gearing up to enjoy football with the youth.
