Tony Romo had many memorable moments during his time with the Dallas Cowboys. And a former Giants star still remembers how tough it was to face him. Two-time Pro Bowler Osi Umenyiora recently made a big statement about Romo that surprised NFL fans.

According to NFL reporter RJ Ochoa, Umenyiora looked back at his battles against the Cowboys quarterback and gave Romo a major compliment. He placed him above several top quarterbacks he faced during his playing days.

“He called him the best quarterback that they ever faced in that time.” RJ Ochoa also noted that Umenyiora was very specific about his choice.

Umenyiora’s comments come from a time when the Giants and Cowboys were regular NFC East rivals. During his years with New York, 2003–2012, he faced Romo and the Cowboys multiple times.

Romo finished with an 11-9 record against the Giants and threw 41 touchdowns in those matchups.

Playing in the same era as legends like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, Romo still built a strong reputation as one of the most talented quarterbacks of his generation.

The comparison with Brady and Manning adds weight to Umenyiora’s view, as both were top quarterbacks of that era.

Umenyiora’s comments highlight the respect Tony Romo earned from players who faced him. Even without the same championship success, his talent left a strong impression on the top defenders of his era.

Romo earned respect from opponents on the field, and now another debate has started about where he stands among Cowboys quarterbacks in PFF’s recent rankings compared with Dak Prescott.

PFF Debate: Romo and Dak Comparison

PFF’s All-Cowboys Team has brought the debate back again, with Dak Prescott picked over Tony Romo as the best Cowboys quarterback since 2003.

Their choice is mainly based on grades and regular-season success, pointing to Dak’s 12-win seasons and NFC East titles. Still, many people disagree and feel the numbers don’t tell the full story.

Romo’s case is more about impact than just stats. He ended his career with a 97.1 passer rating and also had a strong 2014 season with a 113.2 rating.

Even when the team around him wasn’t very strong, he still kept Dallas in games and made big plays under pressure. That’s why many still see him as one of the most important players in Cowboys history.

In the end, both discussions show Tony Romo’s place in NFL conversations. Whether it is respect from players or ranking debates, his name remains part of Cowboys history.
