Giants urged to target ex-Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs in key move

The New York Giants’ defense has a few weak areas going into the 2026 season, but the main concern remains their cornerback unit, which hasn't performed well for the last few seasons.

A recent report suggests the Giants should consider signing former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs to improve their secondary.

“The Giants are currently employing a four-man group consisting of Paulson Adebo, Greg Newsome II, Deonte Banks and rookie Colton Hood," Matthew Schmidt wrote. “There are no legitimate options beyond that quartet, and it's not like they should have a ton of confidence in that depth chart, either.”

The Matthew Schmidt report points to ongoing concerns in the Giants’ cornerback group going into the 2026 season.

Adebo struggled in his first season with New York, while Newsome and Banks have yet to make the impact the team expected. Hood, on the other hand, is still a rookie and has yet to prove himself at the NFL level.

With the Giants looking for help in the secondary, Diggs has become a possible option.

However, injuries have affected Diggs over the past three seasons. He suffered a torn ACL in 2023 and later had knee surgery in 2024, which restricted him to only nine games in 2025.

In 2021, he was named a First-Team All-Pro after recording 11 interceptions and 21 pass breakups. Across six NFL seasons, he has also picked off 20 passes, showing why he was once considered among the league's best at the position.

With the Giants facing concerns at cornerback, Diggs could be a practical option to consider. His arrival could give New York an experienced option at a position that remains a major concern.

The discussion is not just about adding another cornerback. It is also about whether Diggs could offer more than the options New York already has.

Could Trevon Diggs offer more than the Giants’ current options?

While Colton Hood remains an important part of the Giants' plans, a recent Big Blue View report suggested that signing Diggs would not stop the rookie from earning playing time.

Instead, the move would give New York another experienced option as the competition continues at cornerback.

"Thing is, the Giants have two reclamation projects — Greg Newsome and Deonte Banks — competing with Hood for the starting job opposite Adebo," Valentine wrote in his report. "The upside with Diggs, who turns 28 in September, is higher than with either Newsome or Banks."

Despite his injury history, Valentine raised the question of whether Newsome or Banks provides a better option than Diggs.

For now, Diggs remains available, leaving New York with a decision to make. Whether the Giants choose to pursue that option or not is something to watch in the coming weeks.

Do you think Trevon Diggs would be a good fit for the Giants? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
