Good news for Cowboys fans as $5.5 million signing gets Major praise

A simple offseason move is already turning into good news for Cowboys fans, with one of Dallas' new signings earning early praise.

Cobie Durant, who signed a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million with the Cowboys, has earned positive reviews during offseason activities.

"Durant is expected to have a significant role," Jon Machota on the Athletic wrote, "with his ability to play multiple cornerback spots."

The Athletic's Dallas Cowboys insider, Machota, mentioned these comments in his recent Athletic article.

The Cowboys signed Durant on March 13 after he spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The South Carolina State product earned a full-time starting role in his third season and went on to have the best campaign of his career in 2025, making him an interesting addition to Dallas' secondary.

Throughout his career with the Rams, Durant showed his value in the secondary.

In 2024, he allowed just one touchdown and had a 71.2 passer rating in coverage while making 40 tackles.

Last season, he recorded three interceptions, seven pass breakups, and 40 tackles in 17 games. With those numbers, Durant signed a one-year deal with Dallas worth $4 million (worth up to $5.5 million) for 2026.

His skill set fits what Dallas needs in the secondary, especially with his experience in multiple roles. The early praise suggests the move could pay off once the season begins.

The signing has also received support from Eric Williams, who sees Durant as a strong fit for Dallas.

FOX reporter calls Durant a strong fit for Dallas

FOX Sports NFL reporter Eric Williams talked about Cobie Durant in his article on Friday, where he highlighted his value as a smart addition for the Cowboys.

“A versatile, playmaking cornerback who mostly fills a need as a slot defender, Durant will not only be an upgrade to the Cowboys’ secondary,” Williams wrote. “But he’ll improve the backend of their defense on a pretty valuable contract,”

Williams also pointed out Durant’s low-cost deal and his impact plays over his NFL career, noting that he has seven interceptions so far, with two returned for touchdowns across four seasons.

Durant still has to prove himself during the regular season, but the early signs have given Cowboys fans reasons to be hopeful about the move.
