Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo built one of the most successful quarterback careers in Cowboys history, yet one goal remained unfulfilled. The four-time Pro Bowler recently opened up about the one regret that still follows him years after retirement.
During an episode of the Pardon My Take podcast by Bartool Sports on July 13, Romo revealed that his biggest regret was not landing a Lombardi Trophy for the Cowboys during his 13-year stint with them.
"The only regret I guess I would have is that my job was to bring a Super Bowl to Dallas and I didn't do it,” Romo said during the Pardon My Take podcast. “So that always sticks with me a little bit. Because you give your whole body, heart, soul, everything into it."

Romo said during the podcast that he isn't someone who has "big regrets" in life, but admitted that not leading the Cowboys to a Super Bowl title remains one of the biggest disappointments of his career.
Romo finished his career with a 2-4 playoff record, winning 2 of 6 postseason games in the 2009 season against the Philadelphia Eagles and 2014 season against the Detroit Lions.
"And you just wanted that for... all the fans,” Romo said during the Pardon My Take podcast on July 13. “The Joneses. For everybody that you're around. And so that one always sticks with me a little bit just because I had that opportunity and just wasn't able to do it. So that part of it kind of still... sits there."
Romo completed 2,829 of 4,335 passes (65.3%) for 34,183 yards and 248 touchdowns across 156 games (127 started) played, finishing with a record of 78-49-0.
He has earned four Pro Bowl nods and holds the franchise record of being an all-time leader in passer rating (97.1)
Though Romo considered playing for another team, he felt that any success away from the Cowboys wouldn't carry the same meaning for him, given the franchise's long Super Bowl drought.
Why Romo never pursued a ring elsewhere
During the same episode of the Pardon My Take podcast, Romo elaborated on why winning a Super Bowl anywhere other than with the Cowboys would never have meant the same to him.
"But at the end it was like I could go somewhere else and do it," Romo said. "Because I was like, I gotta win a Super Bowl. It's literally what you play the game for. Nothing else matters. And it just was like... but would that be the same? If I went somewhere else and did it?"
Though his body broke down after a point, as he was getting injured more often, he believed that a Super Bowl with another franchise wouldn't carry the same significance.
For Romo, the ultimate goal was to deliver the Lombardi Trophy to the Cowboys franchise and its fan base, something he still regrets not being a part of.
Romo's 14-season Dallas chapter ended on April 4, 2017, and Dallas is yet to win a Super Bowl after almost a decade.
The Cowboys last won the Super Bowl on January 28, 1996. Will the drought end this year? Let us know in the comments.
