When it comes to his next NFL destination, Von Miller has made his preference clear; the Dallas Cowboys have an obvious edge. He was recently drafted to the team, and the news made quite the waves when it broke.

In a short clip shared on Instagram via the official handle of the Dallas Cowboys, the veteran linebacker said his roots in Dallas made the Cowboys a special team for him, and hence an easy preference.

“I'm from Dallas. I don't want to be biased towards any team, but I'm from Dallas," said Miller. "I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. I watched Troy Aikman, Deion Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin. I don't want to be biased towards any team, but I'm from Dallas.”

Continuing in the same short clip on Instagram, Miller added, “We've got a game room dedicated to the Dallas Cowboys. My dad, he's a big Dallas Cowboys fan. It would just be great to go there and play. Like I said, it really doesn't matter what team I play for, but if I had to pick, I'm from Dallas.”

Miller was born and raised in Texas, and he went on to play college football at Texas A&M. He entered the NFL Draft as the second overall pick in 2011, and quickly became one of the premier pass-rushers in the league.

He spent the first ten years of his NFL career with the Denver Broncos, where he won the Super Bowl MVP in the 2015 season.

After being traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2022, Miller then also went on to spend three years with the Buffalo Bills and one year with the Washington Commanders.

For Miller, however, any decision about his future would have a personal element that statistics cannot measure.

Miller's comments also underline how powerful hometown connections can be in professional sports.

How the Cowboys reacted to Miller’s signing

The Cowboys recently confirmed they agreed to terms with the seven-time All-Pro, thus adding another experienced option as they prepare for the new season. Many team members reacted to Miller’s signing to the team.

According to Patrik Walker of the Dallas Cowboys website, Donovan Ezeiruaku revealed that Miller had already spoken to him about taking on a mentorship role.

He said, “He said he wanted to be D Ware [DeMarcus Ware] for me, if that makes sense. And coming from a guy that's a Hall of Famer — he'll be a first ballot, in my opinion — that means a lot. That means he sees the potential in myself, but not only just me, but also in [Malachi and others]. It'll be a great help."

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer was also among those who believe that Miller’s experience and willingness to help younger players are exactly what the team needs right now, given that they have many young players.
