“It still hasn’t hit me”- Von Miller claims to be numb about how it feels to be a Cowboys player

Von Miller is heading back to Dallas, but even after making the move official, the veteran pass rusher says it still hasn't fully sunk in. Miller grew up in DeSoto, Texas, and played college football at Texas A&M, making the move back to Dallas a meaningful one.

Appearing on the Nightcap podcast with Shannon Sharpe, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, and “Iso” Joe Johnson, Miller was asked about wearing a Cowboys uniform for the first time.

“Man, it’s going to be dope. I think it really just has not hit me yet. Like, I was talking to my agent about six hours ago, and he was like, ‘Man, you know, we’re going to go ahead and pull the trigger on this,’ and it still just didn’t hit me yet,” Von Miller said on August 17. "It's still like in that numb stage, man."

Dallas announced Miller's signing Sunday, wth NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reporting that the one-year deal is worth $5.5 million and can reach $7.5 million. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the agreement.

“I had been giving hints on social media and playing with the fans on social media about the Dallas Cowboys for weeks now," Von Miller said on August 17 on the Nightcap podcast.

Miller made eight Pro Bowls and three All-Pro teams during his first nine seasons with the Denver Broncos before missing the 2020 season because of an ankle injury.

"So, it kind of was always there, but to really go all the way through it, it still hasn’t hit me yet. I’m excited to be here. I’m excited to get started,” Miller added.

He was traded to the Los Angeles Rams during the 2021 season, and later spent three seasons with the Buffalo Bills from 2022 through 2024. Miller played for the Washington Commanders last season.

Now he will join a Dallas pass-rushing group that includes Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezeiruaku, and first-round pick Malachi Lawrence.

Miller may be the newest addition to the Cowboys' pass rush, but Jerry Jones is already thinking about how the veteran can help Dallas take the next step.

Is Von Miller just the beginning of the Cowboys' defensive plan?

One person who knows Miller's game well is B.T. Jordan, a Cowboys pass-rush consultant who also works with Miller personally.

"You get someone that's been there and done that," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said of Miller, via Tommy Yarrish of the team website. "He trains with our consulting trainer, and boy, [Jordan] had been telling us all this past year, 'Boy, if we could get [Miller].' "

Jordan had been pushing the Cowboys toward bringing in the veteran, and Jerry Jones said his recommendation played a big role.

"He knew first-hand because he works with him all the time and knew that he could help us," Jones added.

With Miller now joining the defense, Jones' message is simple: if another opportunity comes along that can help Dallas, the Cowboys are willing to consider it.
