The Dallas Cowboys' practice on Sunday, August 9, had the kind of edge that gets noticed around training camp. Dallas’ offense and defense traded big plays throughout the workout, with the defense ultimately getting the better of the session.
According to many reporters, the practice stood out as one of Dallas’ best so far, with the intensity carrying over to several players, including CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys receiver was asked afterward about the atmosphere and its implications for the offense.
“It’s fire," Lamb said. "I embrace it, I love it. It’s good to see your defense come out with that type of energy, that fire, that type of aggression early on. For us on offense, it leaves us no choice to either bog down or fight back and get on top. And I know one thing about us, we won’t bog down for nobody. Even if they’re on our team, we’re going to compete.”

After speaking to the reporters on August 10, Lamb’s response matched the way he played during the workout. He hauled in multiple deep passes from Dak Prescott, including one long completion and another that ended in a touchdown.
Sunday's performance mattered most because drops plagued Lamb last season. It gave him one of his better opportunities to show that the big-play ability is still there.
“I want to win,” Lamb said. “I want to stay healthy, and I want to dominate the year. But as for me, I want to dominate; that's what I want to do. That's my contract to myself.”
He caught 75 passes for 1,077 yards and three touchdowns in 2025, with the touchdown total marking a career low.
Lamb will get another chance to test that connection with Prescott when Dallas holds a joint practice against the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday, August 11.
There is another question hanging over Lamb and the Cowboys beyond the practice field.
CeeDee Lamb wants the Cowboys to keep George Pickens around
Lamb also wants Pickens back beyond 2026, but the Cowboys will have to decide on his contract after the season.
George Pickens is playing the 2026 season on a fully guaranteed $27.3 million franchise tag after the two sides failed to reach a long-term agreement before the July 15 deadline.
"I'm sure we can make a way," Lamb said via Yahoo Sports on August 10. "I know it's going to be a little crazy, but I know we can make a way for this one."
The Cowboys saw what the pairing could do last season. Pickens had 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns, while Lamb added 1,077 yards despite missing time.
The Cowboys passed for 4,527 yards last season, second in the NFL.
For Lamb, though, the goal appears much simpler than the numbers. He wants to win, stay healthy and make his seventh season one that lives up to his own standard.
