Jalen Hurts Under Pressure After Eagles’ Minicamp Struggles

The Philadelphia Eagles recently conducted their first minicamp of the season. This was their first training session under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, who joined this year in January. Naturally, the offense looked a little different, and Jalen Hurts stood out.

According to ESPN's Tim McManus, their offense didn't really have a strong showing during their three practices of minicamp. The squad lagged when it came to their defensive counterparts working under Vic Fangio.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts also reportedly looked out of sorts as he threw an interception to cornerback Riq Woolen, which was initially intended for tight end Dallas Goedert. So there are big gaps that can be experienced between the Eagles' defense and offense.

“The defense — it is in its third year under coordinator Vic Fangio — looks well ahead of the offense, as it should," said McManus. " The offense is still in the early stages of adapting to a new scheme. Offensive players across the board are talking optimistically about Mannion and his designs, but it will take a while for them to get through the learning curve."

Fangio is an older presence in the Eagles camp, while Mannion is new. His schemes naturally need time to get used to. Hurts also has to readjust with the latest OC now that the team has lost wide receiver AJ Brown.

The result was for everyone to see, and Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation had their own take on it.

"Hurts wasn’t very sharp today," came his straightforward evaluation.

Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP reports that Hurts finished the day going 14-19 with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. He further graded the QB's performance as "D." Hurts, however, isn't too concerned.

Jalen Hurts Says Practice Reps Are Helping Him Get Settled

After a lackluster year in 2025, when the Eagles' offense struggled, they now have a chance to redeem themselves. This is why practice is important to get the team in synch with one another.

"Yeah, the comfort comes with the repetition," admits Hurts, "The comfort comes with the teaching and the time on task to what you're doing. And so you just want to continue to build in those areas. I think it's been the same for me every year when it comes to coaching points, intention, vision, what are we really trying to drive, what we're doing."

Mannion is the fifth OC since 2022 and took over from Kevin Patullo. Hurts acknowledges the distinct style of every OC over the years.

At the moment, Hurts is refining his skills working with Parks Frazier.

"Parks has been great. I'm excited to see what the summer brings, and training camp brings, so we continue to grow," said Hurts.

Hurts is also nearing the end of his contract extension with the Eagles. He signed a five-year contract extension worth $255 million in 2023. He would now hope that he can make a final dash for the Super Bowl title this season.
