The Dallas Cowboys took a chance on running back Javonte Williams when they signed him to a one-year deal. After turning that opportunity into a contract extension, the RB has set a clear goal heading into the 2026 season.
"It felt good, just knowing all my hard work paid off and I got a little bit of security," Williams said, per Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News. "But I've still got a lot more to prove. I at least want to go to the Pro Bowl and definitely want to get to a Super Bowl with the team. Just working hard, grinding, and trying to be a better version of myself."
The Cowboys initially signed Williams to a one-year, $3M deal, later extending him to a three-year, $24M (AAV $8M) contract after his breakout production in the 2025 season.
Aside from his Super Bowl aspirations, Williams has been keen on staying available throughout the season and focusing on taking care of his health by developing a new routine.
It involves spending time in hot and cold tubs, massage, and acupuncture to ease his muscle tension, which he doesn't plan to change for the upcoming season.
"Same stuff," Williams said, per Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News. “I feel like if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Williams suffered an ACL, LCL, and posterolateral corner tear in his knee during a Week 4 game against the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022.
He carried the ball 203 times for 903 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season and failed to match that record after his recovery from the injury.
That led him to land with the Cowboys and record his best campaign in 2025. He carried the ball 252 times for 1,201 yards and recorded 11 touchdowns across 16 games played in 2025.
After earning a new contract and setting bigger goals, Williams' consistency has already begun drawing praise from the Cowboys coaching staff.
Cowboys OC sees big potential in Javonte Williams
During his June 16 appearance on NFL Spotlight with Ari Meirov, the Cowboys' offensive coordinator Klayton Adams revealed being impressed with Williams' work ethic and his importance to teamwork.
"The first thing you notice when you’re around Javonte is like, this guy’s an adult," Adams said, per Ari Meirov's X post. "He is very mature, and he’s very smart. I’m really into guys who are great teammates, and that dude is a great teammate.”
Adams noted that he had been a fan of Williams since his NFL debut due to his highly physical play style. He praised the running back's versatility in outside-zone schemes, which has proven him to be a dangerous offensive weapon.
“His game is extremely well-rounded,” Adams said. “He’s a good pass protector. He’s got a fundamental game out of the backfield."
With the confidence of his offensive coordinator, Williams enters the 2026 season with growing confidence to build on his breakout campaign.
