While the soccer fans cheered for the football stars when they appeared on the giant video screen during the FIFA semifinal World Cup match on July 14, Dallas Stadium owner Jerry Jones received boos from the crowd when he appeared on the screen.

The FIFA World Cup semifinal match brought more than 70,000 fans to the Cowboys' home stadium on July 14. Jones made an appearance for the semifinal, along with his wife, Gene Jones. after missing out on the other eight matches of the World Cup hosted by the Dallas Stadium.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram Cowboys reporter Nick Harris posted on X a video that showed the crowd jeering at Jones, where he was watching the game along with his family in his personal suite.

The negative response continued even after the screen switched to FIFA President Gianni Infantino watching the game. To avoid confusion, the Fox Sports announcers clarified that the boos were directed at Jones and not at the FIFA President.

Though the jeers can be attributed to the Cowboys' lack of playoff success and Super Bowl drought for the past 30 years, Andrew Holleran of The Spun believes the crowd consisted mostly of international soccer fans rather than Cowboys fans.

"Jones' Cowboys haven't experienced much postseason success over the past 25 years or so, but it's still surprising to see him booed inside of his own stadium," Andrew Holleran of The Spun wrote.

This is not the first time that Jones faced jeers. Back in the 2025 Cotton Bowl between the Texas Longhorns and the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cowboys' owner was booed by the fans.

As the Dallas Stadium hosted its final and ninth World Cup match, the Cowboys' home ground underwent significant changes to upgrade the venue to meet FIFA's standards.

AT&T Stadium won't keep its FIFA World Cup changes

According to a report by WFAA, the Cowboys stadium is reverting to its old form as the crew began to remove covers, following the end of the semifinal match.

"Now that the matches are over at the Dallas Stadium, it's time to turn it back into AT&T Stadium," according to a WFAA report on July 14. "Crews will start removing the temporary covers over the AT&T signs tomorrow morning [July 15]. It marks the official transition back to Cowboys football, concerts, and other events at the stadium."

Because of its unusual east-west alignment, the sun glare directly hit the eyes of the players during late afternoon games.

The stadium made significant changes by installing blackout covers to cover the glass panels that allowed sunlight to fall directly into the field, according to CBS Texas.

The stadium also installed a blend of Kentucky bluegrass and ryegrass, in place of its usual artificial turf, to meet the FIFA guidelines.

However, Jones had maintained that the World Cup changes were temporary and expressed his eagerness to return the stadium to its regular business operations.
