Jerry Jones is addressing the team's 30-year Super Bowl drought head-on. The Cowboys' owner admitted his central role in the team's struggles. When a reporter asked about how much his part was in the team's decisions, he said:
“Yes, I do. I know that my way of addressing it, which would be just what we’re sitting here talking to you about, is the best way to correct it. The thing that I would want our fans to know, is how much input that I have into what goes on when they see a ball snapped or a play and how much third-party input,” said Jones.
Now it's not just the lack of Super Bowl wins. After winning thrice in a span of five years, they haven't been to the Super Bowl in thirty years. So it's not just the Lombardi they're missing, it's the NFC Championship as well.
Jones also said, “The thing I would want our fans to know is how much input that I have into what goes on when they see a ball snapped or a play.
And we've seen that clearly. The Cowboys are one of the only teams with the same owner, president and general manager. So any decision the franchise took had Jones at the center. And since 1996, the Cowboys have gone through seven head coaches, over quarterbacks, and various offensive schemes. But it hasn't worked out so far.
"Anybody that’s been around me, anybody, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells as far as any coaches, can’t talk to Larry Lacewell of course. You talk to some of those guys, I scrape the floor trying to get some information to make the best decision that we can."
This off-season would be a crucial time for prep. Dallas has most of their offense in place, and a new deal for George Pickens will seal it. But what about the defense?
Jerry Jones Has Made a Big Promise
Jones made his infamous 'all-in' promise and that came with a promise to fans that he will look to bring in better defensive prospects in the off-season.
"And so all of those things I want to do everything we possibly can to stop somebody and to basically win some third downs more than we did last year. And so I think that would be the area that you would see me bust the budget. Where you would see me do that is what we're doing defensively."
Dallas had one of the worst defenses this league has ever seen in 2025. They will need to break the bank on free agent defenders and also draft potential star defenders with their 12th and 20th overall draft picks.
