As the focus shifts to the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, one NFL analyst is urging Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to bolster defense. Expert Josh Edwards hopes the Cowboys will pick Jermod McCoy.
In the new mock draft released by CBS Sports, Edwards picked McCoy for the Dallas Cowboys with the 12th overall pick. The Dallas Cowboys hold two first-round picks, and if used right, they can vastly improve the team.
Edwards wrote, “Jermod McCoy has the potential to be one of the best players to emerge from this draft class and certainly a top cornerback, but he was injured all season.”
McCoy started his college career at Oregon State before transferring to Tennessee. During the 2023 and 2024 seasons, McCoy recorded 75 tackles, 42 of which were solo. The defensive back also defended 14 passes and has had six interceptions.
Unfortunately, Jermod McCoy tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in January of 2025 and had to miss the entire 2025 college football season, focusing on rehab and recovery.
However, this has not significantly affected his draft stock, and analysts continue to expect him to go in the first round. McCoy appeared for this year's NFL combine but did not participate.
However, he was confident about his return to form.
"I can do everything. No limits."
The cornerback will definitely help Chiefs defensive coordinator Christian Parker and the team's defense, which struggled in the 2025 season.
Jermod McCoy Shared an Injury Update Ahead of NFL Pro Day
The cornerback decided not to participate in the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. When asked how the CB was feeling health-wise, he said he wanted to get back to full health.
"Yeah, I’ve been doing everything I wanted to get out here (referring to participating in the combine), but I just want to make sure I’m putting the best thing out.”
The first time Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys would see the CB in action was during the NFL Pro Day, and McCoy looked healthy and ready to go.
The Cowboys recently appointed Christian Parker as their defensive coordinator after an abysmal 2025 season that saw them miss the playoffs with a 7-9-1 record. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer, however, put the blame on all departments.
"None of us have done good enough. That’s real. Our scorecard is what it is. And that’s not just defensively."
McCoy may not hit the ground running from Week 1, but he will get his chance on the team if the Cowboys bring him in.
What do you think about McCoy joining the Cowboys? Let us know in the comments.
