Jerry Jones Explains Thought Behind Repeating History With Packers in NFL Free Agency

The Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers have exchanged key players over the past year.

The Cowboys had traded away Micah Parsons to the Packers in exchange for defensive lineman Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks.

In the latest development, the Cowboys acquired pass rusher Rashan Gary from the Packers in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick.

Jerry Jones spoke to reporters about his thoughts behind getting Gary.

“He started as a first-round draft pick, and he’s played to that level, in my mind, all the way through his career. He gives us a strong player right there that can give us (pass) rush, give us run (stopping), give us both. And he fits this scheme.”

Dallas had one of the worst defences last season, ranking 30th in total yards allowed (377.0) and 32nd in touchdown allowed (60).

Surely, Gary will be a great addition to the Cowboys' defense.

Gary has spent 7 years with the Green Bay Packers, after being acquired by them in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. He has since then recorded a total of 46.5 sacks in 106 games. The former Packers man also earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2024.

He had signed a four-year, $96 million extension in 2023 and is due $18 million in base salary this year. However, even after acquiring Gary, Jerry Jones has no plan to stop just now.

Jerry Jones does not rule out going after Maxx Crosby

Jerry Jones hinted that the Cowboys still might yet go after star edge rusher Maxx Crosby.

Crosby finds himself back at the Las Vegas Raiders after his deal with the Baltimore Ravens fell through due to medical reasons.

He had been recovering from a knee surgery, but did not get through the physical examination, which led to the Ravens backing out of the deal.

Eyeing a potential swoop of Crosby, Jerry Jones said, “We’re pretty far down the road relative to what our plans are. So, while I don’t anticipate it, I don’t want to rule anything out.”

Getting Crosby would be a major move for the Cowboys. Do you think Jerry Jones should be more aggressive in bringing him to the AT&T Stadium? Let us know in the comments.
