Jerry Jones has secured a key piece of the Dallas Cowboys’ offense. They've convinced Javonte Williams to sign a new three-year deal.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal is a $24 million-worth contract. The deal also includes $16 million in guaranteed money, as per Adam Schefter.
Javonte Williams earlier had an injury-filled stint with the Denver Broncos, having signed with them in 2021. A nasty knee injury in 2022 left him unable to perform. However, in 2025, he was able to bounce back and record 1,201 rushing yards, the most for a Dallas running back since Ezekiel Elliott. He also recorded 11 touchdowns and a career high 4.8 yards per carry.
It seems that being with the Cowboys has revitalized his career, given his injury troubles in the past.
Speaking about Williams, Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones had said last month, “Javonte’s at the top of our list to go out and sign. We want to bring him back. We want to sign him to a multiple-year deal.”
Retaining Javonte Williams has come at a bargain for the Cowboys, with his average annual salary coming to around $8 million.
With Williams’ contract secured, fans and experts alike are debating the fate of another offensive powerhouse, George Pickens.
Pickens’ future uncertain with contract talks ongoing
According to Calvin Watkins from The Dallas Morning News, Pickens’s contract would be in the $30 million range. This makes sense, considering his franchise tag deal would be around $28 million.
Jerry Jones has made it clear that retaining Pickens will be the top priority for the Cowboys. "I'm talking to George all the time by virtue of my excitement for him. He's better than, as far as what he contributed to our team, showing the potential that he could contribute. I'm looking forward to getting things worked out so George can be a Cowboy for a long time,” he had said, speaking on the team’s official website.
The franchise tag window is open until March 3rd. The Cowboys have until then to decide whether to put the franchise tag or open up for negotiations in extending Pickens’ contract.
Do you think Jones will be able to keep the offense together for the 2026 season? Let us know in the comments.
