Jerry Jones Makes Bold Admission on Cowboys' Risky Plan to Fix Struggling Defense

The owner and general manager of the Cowboys would have been hurting after looking at how his beloved team defended the football in the 2025 season.

This has left Jones with no choice but to spend money in desperation in an attempt to save his team from another dreadful season.

Jones said, “The only way to push more out is for me to go borrow some of my future. Expect me to go borrow some of my future.” Jones is indicating that he will need to spend some of that money now, which was planned to go out in the future.

It is confirmed that Dak Prescott’s and Tyler Smith’s contracts have been restructured. And CeeDee Lamb will also have his contract restructured to give the Cowboys cap room for free agency.

Jones described the restructures as something “he had to do and not something he wanted to do.”

In the 2025 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys ranked 32nd in terms of their defense out of the 32 teams in the league. Making them plumb last. The defense allowed almost 30 points a game.

They also allowed 511 points, a record NFL high. The Cowboys are last in pass defense as well. 31st in red zone defense and 30th in yards, takeaways, and third- down defense.

These numbers are extremely bad, ranking them last in almost every defensive statistic. As much as Jerry Jones does not want to spend now, the GM is left with no choice but to go and spend money, at least for the sake of the fans.

Can the Cowboys make a play for these two proven defenders?

Dallas needs help on the defensive side of the field. There is no secret about that.

As per reports, Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson are both looking for new landing spots this offseason.

Acquiring Crossby is going to be a little more difficult than acquiring Trey Hendrickson. Crosby is under contract, and the only way he leaves is via a trade. The Las Vegas Raiders are seeking a first-round draft pick and a player to let Crosby go.

While Dallas does have two first-round picks in this year's NFL Draft, will they use it and try to acquire the services of Maxx Crosby?

As for Trey Hendrickson, after not getting tagged by the Cincinnati Bengals becomes a free agent. It would be easier to go for Hendrickson as they have to negotiate with only the player here.

Overall, both are proven defenders and leaders, something this Dallas defense can desperately use.
