Jerry Jones Predicted Against Making a $7 Million Move Amidst NFL Offseason

Will this veteran safety return for another season with the Dallas Cowboys? Jerry Jones and the front office have a decision on their hands to make.

Dallas Cowboys fans will agree that the team had an abysmal time on the defensive end of the field. Going into the draft and free agency, the plan is to “break the bank” on the defense.

Malik H, the safety, had a pretty poor 2025 season and was expected to get cut. Malik might find himself staying with the Cowboys for another season and running out his contract. The safety will cost the Cowboys about $7 million this year.

However, as per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, “Don’t expect any big veteran cuts such as safety Malik….”

From being the number 13-ranked safety in 2022, to number 14 in 2023, all the way to 64 out of 91 in 2025. The safety, who is set to turn 30-years old, may have seen his best NFL playing days ahead of him.

In the 2025 season, Malik suffered a toe injury and was placed in injury reserve (IR). The safety played 12 games and had a passer rating of 131.7, and in his first four years as a Cowboy, that number was good at 80.9.

At this point, it seems unlikely that the veteran safety will get cut and is expected to be a part of the 2026 NFL season.

What did Jerry Jones say about some plans for free agency?

Free agency is approaching fast, and the Cowboys need to be attentive. Their work to get this team to contend again has already begun.

Restructuring ‌Dak Prescott’s and CeeDee Lamb’s contracts was a step in the right direction. As the Cowboys are now under the cap, they can spend on free agents.

The prediction for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys is that they are expected to be aggressive in free agency to rebuild the defense, in particular.

Jones said, “Do I see me ending up spending more money than if you put a perfect picture together that the guy that’s back there looking at the account will say, ‘We don’t have any,’ or, ‘We don’t have enough’? I can see me being aggressive, I can see us being aggressive in free agency.”

The Dallas Cowboys fans would expect no less than their team being aggressive and signing the right personnel after missing the playoffs for two straight seasons.
