Jerry Jones' Stance on Trading for Maxx Crosby Confirmed After Ravens Backed Out

The Cowboys were once top suitors for Maxx Crosby. That interest is now gone. Dallas has officially moved on from the star pass rusher after a chaotic day of trade talks around the league.

As per Ed Werder on X, “A Cowboys source confirms team not expected to re-engage with Raiders regarding Maxx Crosby after trade with Ravens was rescinded - apparently because of concerns about his team physical.”

The source also added, “Ship has sailed here.” It is clear as day that Jones and his Cowboys are walking away from this deal for Crosby.

Moreover, before the trade got rescinded, Dallas had already acquired an edge pass rusher in Rashan Gary from the Green Bay Packers.

The 275-pound defensive end has played 106 games in the NFL, all of them for the Wisconsin outfit. Gary has recorded 270 tackles, of which 154 are solo. The former first-round pick also has 46.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and eight fumble recoveries.

Maxx Crosby does have better numbers compared to Gary. Both of them are 28 years old. However, the Cowboys were able to get the pass rusher for a lot less than what the Raiders were asking for when it came to Crosby.

There is no added complication of the availability of Rashan Gary, and Dallas has made its final decision.

All the roster moves made by Dallas in the last two days.

The most significant move was acquiring Rashan Gary from the Packers.

Another defensive piece, they have agreed terms with safety Jalen Thompson on a three-year, $36 million deal. Edge rusher Sam Williams returns to the Cowboys for one more season and will hope for a better one than last year.

The Cowboys also agreed on a one-year deal for P.J. Locke, reuniting him with Christian Parker, who is now the defensive coordinator.  They have also agreed terms with defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia, also on a one-year deal. The former Los Angeles Charger will be a Cowboy this NFL season.

These moves show a clear pattern: the front office is prioritizing defense.
