Jerry Jones tipped to pursue former Lions CB despite off-field issues

The Dallas Cowboys could have a tough decision ahead as they look to improve their cornerback room. Longtime Cowboys analyst Bryan Broaddus suggested Dallas should take a chance on the former Lions first-round pick, Terrion Arnold, despite his ongoing off-field issues.

“I’m sure some people out there probably say, well, you see it wasn't any good,” Broaddus said. “Anyway, I would argue the point of being a young guy, and the Cowboys have had a history of doing this, though. They've had a history of taking guys who they thought were high on their draft board.”

The Lions selected Terrion Arnold with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The cornerback entered the league with high expectations after being viewed as one of the top defensive backs in his class.

Broaddus made these comments during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan, as per a @1053thefandfw Instagram reel, while discussing whether the Cowboys should consider pursuing Terrion Arnold.

During the 2025 season, Arnold appeared in eight games for Detroit and finished with 31 total tackles, one interception, and eight pass deflections.

However, his time with the Lions ended after he was arrested in Florida and faced charges of armed robbery and kidnapping. The situation resulted in Detroit releasing the young cornerback despite his potential on the field.

Arnold went unclaimed after being waived, making him an unrestricted free agent who can sign with any team. According to his representatives, multiple teams, including the Seahawks, Texans, Colts, and Jets, have shown interest in adding the young cornerback.

The Cowboys could see Arnold as a high-upside addition, but his off-field issues remain a major concern, and Jerry Jones will have to decide if his talent is worth the risk.

However, another Cowboys analyst has also explained why Arnold could still be worth the risk for Dallas.

According to Cody Warren of Inside The Star, Dallas' uncertainty at cornerback is one reason the team should consider adding Terrion Arnold.

“The Cowboys have major questions at cornerback,” Warren wrote. “Dallas has talent in the room, but I know talent on paper doesn’t settle much when the depth chart is one injury away from everyone holding their breath. That’s where I think this Terrion Arnold to Dallas could have some legs.”

Warren noted that the additions of Cobie Durant, Caelen Carson, and rookie Devin Moore have improved Dallas' secondary. However, injury concerns surrounding DaRon Bland and Shavon Revel Jr. continue to leave questions about the unit heading into the season.

“For me, I would make the call,” Warren wrote. “There is too much talent in Terrion Arnold to act like he doesn’t exist, but also too much trouble around him to act like this is just another cornerback visit.”

Still, Warren believes the ongoing off-field legal issues could make the Cowboys think twice before making a move, despite Arnold's talent and potential.
