Micah Parsons’ trade to the Green Bay Packers was riddled with controversy.
From the trade, the Cowboys received a 2026 first-round pick and a 2027 first-round pick, and also landed a three-time Pro Bowler, Kenny Clark. It was a move that raised a lot of eyebrows from fans and experts alike.
Former NFL veteran cornerback Richard Sherman was equally surprised at the turn of events. He recently hosted former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin on his podcast.
Irvin spoke candidly about the Parsons trade and how everything transpired. “First of all, Jerry was hurt. The relationship that Micah had, I heard Micah talk about in the Pro Bowl, Jerry was hurt," he said.
Parsons was a key player on the Dallas Cowboys' defense. He recorded over 12 sacks in each of his first four seasons, joining Reggie White as the only player to do so. He was also a Pro Bowler for four consecutive years from 2021 to 2024.
Sherman naturally also questioned why a player of Parsons' caliber would be traded for draft picks. Irvin, however, seemed to disagree and was happy with the change.
“I love the direction that Dallas is heading. Last year, what we found out was that we got the makings of a great offense. So, it works perfectly, man," Irvin said.
The Cowboys' defense crumbled last season following Parsons’ exit. Dallas was one of the worst teams in terms of yards per game allowed, with 377. Not only that, they ranked 32nd with 30.1 points per game.
While the franchise now lacks a playmaker and a key pass rusher, Parsons wasn't thrilled about his move, either.
Micah Parsons on his exit from the Cowboys
Micah Parsons felt completely exhausted when he left the Cowboys to join the Packers.
“These last six months were super draining, super toxic for everyone. It’s something that I feel no player should ever go through. The fact that I was traded one week was really outrageous and rough," he said in an interview right after he departed.
Nonetheless, he enjoyed a great season in Green Bay. In 14 games, Parsons racked up 12.5 sacks, 19 solo tackles, and a couple of forced fumbles.
His exit has cast doubts on the franchise and Jones’ decision-making. The fans also seem to agree, and frustration is building as the Super Bowl drought continues.
