Jimmy Johnson announced his retirement from Fox Sports after 31 years, on March 3, 2025, marking the end of a legendary broadcasting career that followed his successful coaching tenure. More than a year after stepping away from the studio, the veteran analyst and Super Bowl-winning coach is having a great time.

A recent fan tweet highlighted Jimmy Johnson’s remarkable impact on football. One cannot speak about the icon without commending his career in college football, the NFL, and with FOX Sports. Johnson has been a natural across all three tenures. Now 89 years old, his achievements make his time off much more enjoyable.

"Loving retirement!" he wrote on X.

Johnson began as an assistant football coach for Louisiana Tech in 1965. His most notable stop was, of course, with the Miami Hurricanes, where he won the National Championship in 1987. In the NFL, he turned the Dallas Cowboys around from a losing team to a Super Bowl-winning squad. Later on, Jimmy Johnson was inducted into the Pro Football and College Football Halls of Fame - these honors alone make his retirement sweet enough. But Johnson still valued his time at Fox Sports the most.

“The most fun I ever had in my career, that’s counting Super Bowls and national championships, was at Fox Sports,” he said during his retirement announcement. Fox Sports CEO Eric Shanks had also noted that Johnson had been the cornerstone of Fox NFL Sunday since its inception, while praising his sharp insight and witty speech.

Jimmy Johnson used to travel from Florida, his home, to the LA Studio every week when he was at Fox. Towards the twilight of his career, he would only travel for doubleheader Sundays and work the rest of them from home. It shows how dedicated Johnson was as a professional.

But even though he has walked into the sunset, Jimmy Johnson remains a busy man.

Jimmy Johnson is still a working man

The veteran coach and broadcaster announced this year that he was starting an online store, called JJSwagger.com. The brand is connected to Big Chill, his restaurant in Fisherman's Cove, Key Largo.

Customers can now avail a variety of merchandise, even signed items from Jimmy Johnson. Big Chill was a passion project for the broadcaster, and this way, he is bringing in some more income by making use of his own personal branding.

Now free from his official duties, the famed Dallas coach and memorable broadcaster will get to make the most of these happy days by keeping himself engaged with other things. But he will always be remembered by fans for his legendary career!
